The music organization IFPI announced that the winner of the IFPI Global Digital Single Award 2021 is The Weeknd's "Save Your Tears" album
The award recognizes the world's best-selling single of the year, across all digital formats. These include paid subscription streaming, ad-supported platforms, and single track downloads and streams.
It's been another brilliant year for The Weeknd, and 'Save Your Tears' has undoubtedly become one of the most beloved songs in the world," said Frances Moore, executive director of IFPI. We would like to congratulate The Weeknd and his entire team on winning our Global Digital Single of the Year award for the second year in a row - an incredible achievement."
"Save Your Tears," released in August 2020, was the fourth single from The Weeknd After Hours, his fourth studio album. It topped the charts in the U.S. and in many other countries around the world. The track went platinum in 14 countries on three continents.
According to IFPI, the song had 2.15 billion global subscriptions. Notably, "Blinding Lights" continued to be popular in 2021, ranking seventh after topping the IFPI list the year before.
Second place on the 2021 chart went to "Stay" by Australian rapper The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber with 2.07 billion global subscriptions. "Levitating" by Dua Lipa was No. 3, and BTS' single "Butter" and Olivia Rodrigo's "Drivers License" rounded out the top five for 2021.
On February 22 BTS were announced as winners of the IFPI Global Recording Artist of the Year award. Today, March 1, the organization will announce the "Best World Albums of the Year.
