Drakeo The Ruler - Out The Slums (Remix feat. Danny Brown & 03 Greedo)
A few years ago, partners in collaborations Drakeo The Ruler and 03 Greedo were arguably two of Southern California's most progressive, inventive and interesting underground rappers. Now they're both in prison. Greedo is serving a 20-year sentence for drug and gun possession. Meanwhile Drakeo has already been acquitted of murder charges from last year, but he is still awaiting trial on charges of criminal conspiracy with a gang and shooting from a moving vehicle. His case is going very slowly. But soon we'll have a new mixtape awaiting us that will bring together new remixes from Drakeo's acclaimed 2017 album "Cold Devil". At the very beginning of this mixtape, their collaboration with Danny Brown is already waiting for us! The record is below...
March sees the release of the Drakeo Free Drakeo mixtape. And in his very first remix, Danny Brown jumps in on the hazy and eerie track "Out The Slums", bringing an anarchic energy that perfectly complements Drakeo's booming grunts and Greedo's inarticulate squeals. Danny's punch is simply gorgeous:
"Time to party like I'm wearing Ed Hardy, got a mohawk, and say words like 'gnarly'."
Danny Brown pays attention to underground rap music, so of course he knows Drakeo and Greedo. And even if we don't get a full live collaboration with these three guys, it's still great to hear all of their voices together on a mixed record. Below is the remix and video of the original "Out The Slums"... Enjoy....
