Jonathan Philip Moffett was born November 17, 1954 in Louisiana, a beautiful and densely populated city located in the United States. While his brothers were playing guitar and bass, Jonathan's father encouraged him to play drums... By the way: he was greatly influenced by Buddy Rich, Louis Bellson, Billy Cobham and some other drummers are mostly from New Orleans.

Curious, but initially Moffett wanted to play bass guitar! He knew all the bass guitar parts in the songs well and even imitated them on the bass drum! Like many cult musicians, Jonathan cannot boast of a musical education: as a boy, he learned to play the drums by ear by ear. Thanks to his father, he was addicted to the drums, and subsequently received the nickname sugarfoot for his fast and distinct bass drumming, which requires a great deal of precision and endurance from the drummer...

In the spring of 1979, he accidentally stumbled upon the music director The Jackson 5, James McFieldwho told him about the audition for the role of the drummer. Jonathan literally begged McField to tell them to give him a chance, given that his audition request was submitted at the last minute ... The same day, James came to the auditions and conveyed the request to the brothers Jonathan. Luckily, the Jacksons agreed to extend the audition for one more day to give the 25-year-old Moffett a chance... And they were right! As McField said:

“I called him the same evening and said: be at the Jackson house tomorrow at 3 pm. They want to give you a chance!"

Arriving at the appointed time, Jonathan passed the audition smoothly and quickly when Tito finally asked with a grin:

"Now can you play Shake Your Body Down?"

The fact is that this particular song is usually very difficult to perform live for any drummer, given that the drums for it were recorded three times (with three parts overdubbed!) However Jonathan managed to play all the drum parts at the same time, right in front of the brothers. Everyone was shocked and delighted at the same time...

Jonathan practiced and practiced all the drum parts on this song until he figured out how to play "Shake Your Body Down" ideally! He was solving these intricacies like a puzzle... He had never seen anyone play this song live, so when he heard it, he assumed that all the drum parts were played at the same time, and not recorded separately. Needless to say, the Jacksons hired him on the spot? And so began an exciting musical journey. Jonathan Moffett and the Jacksons

His first major tour with The Jacksons there was a tour Destiny 1979 of the year. Then followed Triumph 1981 of the year, a tour that was described by Rolling Stone magazine as "one of the best tours of the last 20 years!" Actually, Triumph Tour led to the release of the album The Jacksons Live, which went double platinum with over 2 million copies sold worldwide!

This undoubtedly gave Michael's dance a more powerful visual effect!

You could say the duo had a synchronized telepathic link on stage! It seemed Moffett it was destined to meet and eventually unite with Michael, given that he always knew what dance move his colleague on stage would do next:

“One day Michael said to me: “How did you do it? How did you know I was going to make that move or stop? It's like you read my mind!" Moffett recalls and laughs.

Of course, Moffett agreed. As a result, due to the huge success of this tour, he continued his journey with Madonna on her subsequent world tours. Who's That Girl and Blond Ambition!

In addition, Moffett recorded drums, percussion and vocals on three of the singer's albums: True Blue, Like A Prayer and I'm Breathless. He also supported Madonna on Live Aid in 1985…

In addition to Michael Jackson and Madonna, these included Janet Jackson, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie, George Michael and... even myself Prince! Yes Yes! Prince, who was notorious for his dislike of the king of pop, sincerely praised Moffett after his many performances with The Jacksons and various artists for whom he has played. And although Prince clearly wanted him to play live for him, that was not an option given that Jonathan was "Michael Jackson's drummer..."
