Anthony Kiedis: Crazy Stories About Red Hot Chili Peppers Frontman

The most interesting thing about Anthony Kiedis!

Amazing facts from the life of Anthony Kiedis...

Anthony Kiedis is an American musician, songwriter, and singer best known as the lead vocalist of the rock band the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Once wandering the streets of Los Angeles and raving about the lyrics of Jim Morrison, today Kiedis is the epitome of rock 'n' roll (or funk 'n' roll, if you will). And although the seemingly extravagant details of his outlandish life have been widely known for a long time, there are stories in the plausibility of which one can hardly believe ... Actually, Kiedis deserves separate consideration for his truly depraved antics! It is worth noting that most of the stories mentioned are taken directly from the musician's autobiography! And it seems that many of them are much more exaggerated than you can imagine...

He allegedly had a relationship with his father's 18-year-old girlfriend

According to the rock star, at the age of 12 he had an intimate relationship with an 18-year-old girlfriend of his father, a dancer girl ... Moreover, the boy's father himself not only knew about this, but was allegedly the initiator of this connection! As Kiedis said, his father specially took them to a room with a large bed of four mattresses ... If this was true, then for Kiedis this was the first step into adulthood ...

He said he saw Cher completely naked

Kiedis' father was friends with Sonny Bono and Cher, whose son Chaz was several years younger than Anthony. And when he first moved to Los Angeles, Kiedis spent a fair amount of time with the Bono family, going to parties and such... When Kiedis was in eighth grade, Cher, by then separated from Sonny, offered to babysit him (according to his autobiography). He and Cher had a pleasant evening, then Kiedis went to bed, and Cher prepared to do the same... Believing that Kiedis was asleep, the woman removed all her clothes. But Kiedis watched from the side…

Kiedis claims it was his father who introduced him to the rock and roll lifestyle

In the mid-60s, Blackie Dammett began to hang around the clubs, throwing wild parties and ignoring his young family ... This free lifestyle soon led to a divorce: Margaret Noble left him and moved with Anthony and her new husband Scott to her native state of Michigan. In the meantime, Dammett went to London, where he hung out with Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin and wrote letters to Anthony about how cool it was to be among the rock gods. He eventually returned to Los Angeles, where, as a struggling actor, he dealt illegal drugs and hung out with rock stars. And in 1974, when Anthony was 12 years old, he moved to live with his father. As an impressionable teenager, he met Bowie, Blondie, Talking Heads and many others. Kiedis later said that it was his father who introduced him to addictions:

“... not even a week has passed since I moved in with him. We were in the kitchen when he offered it to me… I agreed, and I fucking loved the effect… In an instant, unexpectedly for myself, I fell in love with this sensation… It was like a medicine that soothes the soul and awakens the senses…”

Blackie Dammett himself said that he did not see anything wrong with the fact that he allowed the child to "get high".

He said he broke his back jumping from the fifth floor into the pool

Kiedis and his mother often spent summers in his hometown of Grand Rapids, Michigan when he was a child. While there, he and his friends regularly jumped from railroad overpasses into lakes and rivers. As a high school student in Los Angeles, Kiedis quickly became friends with Mike Balzary, who you may know as Flea. And as a form of entertainment, they… started jumping from the rooftops of apartment buildings into swimming pools… As you can imagine, it was an extremely dangerous hobby. In the end, Kiedis ended up in the hospital: he jumped from the roof of a 5-story building! Fortunately, he recovered from a broken back. But the injury has affected his mobility and is one of the reasons for his very rigid dance moves. The rocker himself recalled it this way:

"I wasn't going to dive into the pool, but I started jumping backwards off the building like I was Superman!"

He proposed to Debbie Harry when he was a kid.

Blackie Dammett, Kiedis' father, became fascinated with punk right after it became popular in Los Angeles in the late 1970s. Dammett spent a lot of time at the Masque, a punk club on Hollywood Boulevard, and often brought Anthony there, who was then 15 years old. Father and son also saw all the great New York punk bands of the first wave at venues like Whiskey on the Sunset Strip.

In February 1977, Blondie opened for the Ramones at the Whiskey, with Kiedis and Dammett at the after-party. It was there that Kiedis met Blondie vocalist Debbie Harry. As he later said:

"...I was totally in love with Deborah Harry..."

Harry herself does not deny this. Moreover: she claimed that he proposed to her:

“I had one offer from Anthony Kiedis of the Red Hot Chili Peppers when he was about 10 years old! I treasure it. But then I had to gently let him down ... "

He said he hit a tree at 90 miles an hour

In 1984, Kiedis traveled to Michigan to visit his family. On the way home, the far from sober "driver" hit the gas pedal to the floor, after which he lost consciousness. The car turned onto the road and sped toward the grove. The blow was so strong that the engine shot into the car ... Fortunately, a paramedic lived nearby, and an ambulance was parked in his driveway. He heard about the accident and quickly came to the rescue, accompanied by firefighters. As Kiedis recalled:

“…the paramedics hovered over, asking who the president was now. I answered every question they asked, although I couldn't understand why they were testing me for brain damage. I didn't realize that my whole head was split wide open, and I looked like a plate of spaghetti and meatballs ... "

He sparked a statewide manhunt when he fled with the daughter of a Louisiana police chief.

After playing in New Orleans during the band's first national tour in the mid-80s, Kiedis met a girl backstage whom he described as "a reincarnated southern version of Marilyn Monroe." He asked her to keep him company while he takes a shower, which she was more than happy about! According to his autobiography:

“She immediately threw her clothes on the floor ... I knew the girl for five minutes, but I was sure of my affection for her. We spent the night together and I learned more about her, including that she went to a Catholic school (later a stranger would be the inspiration for the song "Catholic School Girls Rule")..."

The following day, a young woman accompanied the RHCP to Baton Rouge. After the band's performance, she took Kiedis aside to confess:

“I need to tell you something. My father is the chief of police, and the whole state of Louisiana is looking for me because I have gone missing ... I'm only fourteen ... "

Do you think Kiedis was taken aback?

He said he got lost in the Borneo jungle for a week, got dengue fever, and had a cockroach in his ear canal.

In 1992 the RHCP were playing in Australia and New Zealand and Kiedis fell in love with the culture of the Pacific Islands. Making no commitments after the tour, he stayed at Down Under while the rest of the band went home... Pursuing this romantic vision of an ancient way of life, Kiedis said he set aside a full month to get through the extremely dense, isolated jungle of Borneo with a Dutch tattoo. Master Hank Schiffmacher. The trip was a nightmare and things got out of control very quickly. On the first night in nature, Kiedis had a severe headache. When Schiffmacher aimed a flashlight at the singer's ear canal, a cockroach crawled out of it.

But soon the guides got lost. They ended up missing for a week, during which Kiedis contracted dengue fever, "a painful, debilitating mosquito-borne disease" that can cause nausea, fever, severe pain, and other symptoms. The rocker later recalled:

“I had these beautiful images in my head: I was swinging, jumping from vines, playing in the jungle, finding orangutans and dancing among exotic flowers… But it turned into something more than Vietnam…”

He said he fell in love with Sinead O'Connor

Kiedis met Irish singer Sinead O'Connor backstage at a festival in 1989: he was so mesmerized by her performance that he claimed to have fallen in love right then and there... Weeks later, Kiedis ran into O'Connor on a Los Angeles street and wanted to fly to heaven with happiness and euphoria ... "I would immediately marry her!" - He wrote in his autobiography. But as he himself claimed, the relationship between them did not go beyond kisses. O'Connor, for her part, denied that the affair ever took place at all...

He played the son of Sylvester Stallone

In the mid-70s, Kiedis tried his hand at child stardom, using his father's connections to land small roles in films. And so, in 1978, he was cast as the son of Sylvester Stallone's character in The Fist! According to Kiedis, he quickly sought out Stallone upon arrival at the set:

"I'm playing your son, so I thought we should hang out a bit so I can develop..." Kiedis stated! But Stallone thought differently: “No, I don’t think so,” he said and looked around for an assistant. “Someone come and take this child!” he shouted.

The Chili Peppers enjoyed great success at the 1992 MTV Video Awards. They won three awards and put on a crazy rendition of "Give It Away," a song that mixes love for chaotic circuses with '90s brother parties and psychedelic romp... In accepting the prize for "Under the Bridge," Kiedis compiled a long list of artists who he wanted to thank, starting with Satan. According to his autobiography, his grandmother, not realizing that Anthony was joking, disowned him. He subsequently wrote her a letter in which he explained that he was not in fact a Satanist.

He said he "purified" his blood with ozone to prevent a recurrence of hepatitis C

Although he tested positive for hepatitis C in the early 1990s, the singer claimed that he was able to beat the disease by "cleansing" his blood with ozone, a substance believed to cure almost everything under the sun! Of course, ozone therapy has known risks! But… they didn't frighten Kiedis at all.
