Biography of Eric Clapton. History of the musician

Eric Clapton is the most influential and talented rock musician of our time. He is the only one to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame three times: first as the guitarist for The Yardbirds, then as the frontman for Cream, and finally as a solo artist. He was always distinguished by rather free and liberal views, was open to new musical trends and trends. Actually, this quality made him change rock bands so often, experiment with different directions and genres. However, despite the constant changes in musical style, he always remained true to his blues roots.

The early years of the musician

Eric Clapton was born in the spring of 1945 in the small English village of Ripley, located near Surrey. All his childhood was saturated with various mysteries and secrets, the main of which, of course, was the birth itself. The biological father of the boy was a Canadian soldier Edward Fryer, who came to British lands by military distribution. It so happened that during the service he had a short-term affair with a local sixteen-year-old girl named Molly Clapton. The lovers spent a couple of weeks together, the war ended, Fryer returned to Canada, and Molly found out that she was expecting a baby.

For a prim English society, the news of the pregnancy of an unmarried and underage girl would be a real shock, an occasion for endless discussions and gossip. Trying to avoid shame, Molly's family went to the trick, passing off a newborn child as her brother.

So, until the age of nine, Eric did not even suspect that Molly Clapton was his biological mother. The upbringing of the boy was entirely engaged in his grandparents. Molly later married a Canadian soldier and left the UK forever, moving to Germany. She did not take her son with her, leaving her with her own parents in her native county.

Eric Clapton (Eric Clapton) and The Yardbirds

Clapton made his first musical steps as a member of The Yardbirds, which created unique rock and roll compositions with a clear blues influence. However, by March 1965, the musician decided to leave the band due to the accumulated creative differences - Clapton believed that his former comrades had begun to dive too deeply into pop culture.

In the same 1965, he joined the Bluesbreakers, where he managed to establish himself as a skilled blues guitarist. It was in this group that he found his own audience, found his first fans. Fans called Clapton "real god", chanted slogans in his honor for hours and painted the city walls with his name.

Unaccustomed to sitting idle, the artist did not grieve about the breakup, instead of this he quickly got involved in work with a new team - Blind Faith. In 1969, the premiere of the self-titled debut album "Blind Faith" took place. It was rather warmly received by critics, was popular among fans of alternative rock.

Musician romance with Patti Boyd

1970 was a particularly significant year for Clapton. It was at that time that he met Patti Boyd, the ex-wife of his close friend George Harrison, with whom he quickly and unconditionally fell in love. The couple's relationship was sensual and vibrant, causing a storm of emotions in Clapton, and therefore could not but be reflected in his work. In honor of his beloved, the musician recorded the whole album "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs", while the composition "Layla" became the most iconic and popular.
