Naishuller is famous for his extravagant videos and bright live performances! The director's works are catchy and win passionate responses from the audience ... And although his biography is filled with "gaps", there really is something to tell about this person!
Early years: family, childhood…
Ilya Naishuller was born in November 1983 in Moscow. For six years of his life, the guy studied in London, after which he returned to his homeland and graduated from the British International School in Yasenevo. In Naishuller's life, there were many undertakings that, for one reason or another, never found their logical conclusion ... So, for example, Ilya entered the Institute of Television and Radio Broadcasting, as well as a university in New York. However, he did not graduate from any of the educational institutions.
Let's talk a little about Ilya's parents. It is worth noting that the Naishuller family is democratic and well-mannered. Father - Viktor Naishuller - a successful businessman, president and founder of the OMS company. Parents took care of the education of their child, so at the age of eight, Ilya went to study in London. There, the future clip maker perfectly mastered a foreign language. Subsequently, Ilya Naishuller said that sometimes he thinks in his head in two languages at once! It is also known that our hero loves films and ... computer games since childhood! One of Ilya's favorite films is the famous "Goldfinger" by Guy Hamilton. The brave adventures of James Bond starring Sean Connery impressed the young man so much that I have no idea what the profession of a director is, he told his parents that he would become one! In fact, he kept his word.
Interesting fact: the guy had to transfer to a British private school due to an unpleasant incident. Ilya liked the girl, to whom another guy climbed. While a true gentleman, he decided to dot all the “and”, as a result of which the opponent even got injured ... Like that.
Getting started
After graduating from a private school, Ilya entered the Institute of Television and Radio Broadcasting. However, already in his second year, he dropped out and got a job at Mosfilm as an assistant, where he had to sell coffee and, at times, be a personal driver. Subsequently, Naishuller went to study in New York, but it didn’t work out there either: tired of subjects that, according to Ilya, are of no use in everyday life, our hero finally abandoned education and devoted himself completely to creativity ... Having organized his own group, the guy is not on jokingly got carried away with music ...
Music: Success with the Biting Elbows
The rock band Biting Elbows was formed by Ilya in 2008. Translated from English, the name of the band means "Biting your elbows". Initially it was a classic post-punk band, which gradually moved to the measured sound of indie rock ... It is not surprising that the Biting Elbows quickly found success among modern listeners. The guys often performed as the opening act for famous colleagues such as Placebo and Guns N' Roses! On their account, the opening of the annual international music festival "Maksidrom", as well as the song included in the soundtrack for the film "What else do men talk about."
In 2011, Biting Elbows released their debut album, Dope Fiend Massacre. The video of the same name soon followed, conquering the Internet! The video was simply enormously popular on the air of the A-ONE music channel (now TNT-music). What is the secret of success? Everything is very simple: the clip is filmed in the first person, which allows the viewer to transform into the main character and feel the drive of his adventures around the city: parkour, shooting and much, much more!
The next masterpiece was the clip "Bad Motherfucker", which has gained more than 45 million views on YouTube so far!
Unlike the previous work, this clip attracted the attention of the audience with a juicy concept and ... a rather bloody plot! The action unfolds simply dynamic ...
Films
Very soon, a guy with bright and original ideas for a video was noticed by major directors! So, for example, Timur Bekmambetov himself offered Ilya to make a film from the first person, which, as a result, became a masterpiece of Russian cinema! The result of their collaboration was the action movie Hardcore released in 2015! The tape from beginning to end was filmed on a GoPro Hero 3 camera!
The plot of the film revolves around the cyborg Henry, who wakes up in the laboratory. A certain blonde named Estelle introduces herself as his wife. The half-man was already beginning to remember a happy family life with his beloved, but criminals break into the building and kidnap the girl ... In a word, a cool film for those who like to tickle their nerves! Curiously, such Hollywood stars as Sharlto Copley, Hayley Bennett and Tim Roth took part in the filming of Hardcore. The budget of the tape was about 2 million dollars ...
After that, world-class stars began to cooperate with Ilya! So, for example, the well-known Canadian singer The Weeknd turned to Naishuller with a request to shoot a dynamic clip about a robbery for the song "False Alarm"!
In 2017, Ilya Naishuller managed to work with the well-known group "Leningrad", for which he shot the clip "Kolshchik". Sergei Shnurov wanted "horror in the circus", but Ilya masterfully seasoned this horror with a portion of humor ...
Subsequently, Ilya refused to shoot video "from the first person" so that the "action camera" style would not exhaust itself ...
Personal life
In his free time, Ilya likes to read books, play video games, and watch movies! The director is on many social networks, including Instagram and Twitter. An interesting fact that few people know about: although the director focuses on dynamic “bloody” scenes, in life he cannot stand the sight of blood ... Ilya told blogger Yuri Dudyu about this.
Since 2010, Ilya has been married to Daria Charusha. The couple met on the set of the film You and Me (2009), and a year later they got married!
