About Billy Eilish's collaborative track with singer Rosalie. The new soundtrack to Euphoria.

"Lo Vas a Olvidar" is a song, a collaborative duet between Billie Eilish and Spanish singer Rosalia. The track was released on 21 January 2021 as part of the soundtrack of the television series Euphoria. The producer, as you might expect, was Finneas O'Connell, Ailish's brother. The lyrics were co-written with musician El Guincho.

The long-promised collaboration between Billie Eilish and Spanish superstar Rosalia has finally seen the light of day! On her Instagram, Ailish wrote, "You guys have been waiting for this!" The post included a snippet from the music video, which racked up 9.5 million views in just one day! How was working on the track? Let's find out!

The backstory...

For over a year, Billy Aylish and Spanish singer Rosalia have been hinting at a joint track. Now fans can finally hear the long-awaited "Lo Vas A Olvidar" ("You'll Forget Her")! The song, as well as its music video, was released on 21 January 2021! The single will be part of the soundtrack of the television series Euphoria (episode Part Two: Jules). The intrigue began in March 2019 when Rosalie shared a photo of her and Ailish in the studio with the caption, "Can't wait to finish our song." While fans speculated when their collaboration could be savoured, Billie Eilish shared a snippet from the song's music video on her Instagram, writing, "You guys have been waiting for this..."

By the way, this isn't the only gesture Ailish dedicated to sweet-voiced Spaniard Rosalia! In a 2019 interview, the singer said:

"She knows what she wants, it's very refreshing... I said to Rosalia, "Wow, you're the only person I've ever met who's really so driven!" God, she's the nicest girl I've ever met..."

For her part in 2020, Rosalia gave an interview in which she revealed what to expect from her and Billy's joint track:

"Everything is so uncertain, it's hard to make plans, to be honest. But I love what we've started to do... And hopefully one day we'll finish this track. I really love Billie! She knows I'm a big fan of hers, and I'm happy that we're friends and that we get to spend time making music together. I hope we can spend more time together soon when things calm down, when the world is back to normal (meaning the coronavirus outbreak)."

Rosalia also spoke about the song leaking online in an interview with Apple Radio:

"For the last two weeks I've been trying to finalise a collaboration with Billie Eilish. I think the result is getting closer and closer... I feel like the production, the sound design is almost done, so I just need Billie to send the vocals..."

The mood, the idea...

"Lo Vas a Olvidar" can be characterised as a ballad incorporating "inventive art-pop"! Critics have noted the variety of "sparse live sounds of nature, atmospheric sound of synthesisers forming a hazy background..." What's notable is that the song is written mostly in Spanish! Why is that so? Let's find out! In her interview, Billie Eilish said:

"It was the longest track work I've ever done... We wrote most of the song back in January 2019. Rosalia opened my eyes to new things I'd never tried before! I really think it's pretty damn beautiful... Most of the song is written in Spanish, and I think that's really cool! I remember when we were writing the song, she was saying something like, "No, no, it should be in English!" And I was like, "No, no, no. It should be in Spanish. It's so beautiful..." And I don't regret my decision!"

So... "Lo Vas a Olvidar" was the perfect opportunity for Ailish to work on something she had never done before!

"I've always liked music that's not in English," Billy continues. "I like a ton of music in languages I don't even speak! I've been really intrigued by that my whole life. I like so many Russian songs, Spanish songs and French songs... Then Rosalia told me what the lyrics meant, and then I thought, 'Oh my God, this is so beautiful!' The conveyance of emotion is beautiful..." It's really great..."

Reception, Promotion...

The song "Lo Vas a Olvidar" received generally positive reviews from critics. Some characterised the track as "sinister" and "minimalist", some called the song "haunting (obsessive)", and some simply "beautiful"! But the real gift for fans was the music video, released along with the track on 21 January 2021! The video was directed by Nabil Elderkin, who has won several prestigious awards....

Gloomy visuals show Ailish and Rosalia singing amidst flashing lights, and their soft and high vocals create a haunting blend... They sing the chorus, the first part of which translates as: "Are you going to forget this?" Fans of excessive nail art, the singers tried on killer translucent nails for the clip! In short - everything here is beautiful and enchanting! It's not for nothing that the video got almost 10 million views on the first day!

Conclusion...

This exciting collaboration kicks off an eventful year for Ailish, who is gearing up for the release of her first documentary film as well as her first book. On 26 February, the highly anticipated Billy Eilish: The World is a Little Blurred will make its world premiere on Apple TV +... The documentary, directed by award-winning filmmaker RJ Cutler, is a story of growing up and the meteoric rise of a young artist!

This spring, fans can learn even more about Eilish's world from her photo book of the same name. Billie Eilish will take fans on a visual journey through the pages of her life, from snapshots of her early childhood to behind-the-scenes moments on tour. The book will go on sale on 11 May and the audiobook will feature Ailish and her family sharing stories from her personal life and career.
