Mary Austin is Freddie Mercury's last woman.

"When Freddie was gone, I felt like I had lost my family..... He was everything to me, apart from my sons ... He was unlike any man I'd ever met..."

About Freddie Mercury and his last woman, Mary Austin ....

Freddie Mercury was the legendary frontman of the band Queen, and until his death, Mary Austin remained the only woman he truly loved... Yes, they may have been complete opposites in terms of character and outlook. However, this did not prevent their strong union, which lasted for many years on some amazing and unknown level....

Mary Austin was a modest working-class girl raised by deaf parents... She remained one of Freddie's closest people until 1991, when the musician died... Freddie Mercury is a world-famous charismatic singer, a real star, the soul of any company... So what united these two, so different people?

How did their acquaintance happen?

On one side is Freddie Mercury, the wild in every sense of the word Queen's lead singer, who once declared: "I'll sleep with anyone - man, woman, or cat!" On the other side was Mary Austin, a quiet working-class girl raised by deaf parents who remained faithful to him to the very end... However, their very different upbringings and perceptions of life were no barrier to their lifelong union... Their union was so strong that one day Freddie even proposed to Mary! At the end of his days he left her a huge inheritance in the form of a mansion and £75 million... Although their romance ended long before Mercury's death, he and Mary remained very close friends until 1991... Freddie once said:

"All my life my lovers have asked me why they can't replace Mary for me... But it's impossible! Mary is my closest person, and I don't want anyone else! Our relationship with her was the truest marriage... We always supported each other... And I could never love someone as much as Mary!"

Their first meeting took place at the end of the 1960s: five years after Freddie had moved to England. At the time, he was 24 years old and had just graduated from art college. Young 19-year-old Mary was working in a fashion boutique in West London. So, soon love broke out between them... The young and happy couple moved into a separate small flat located near Kensington Market. Their romance developed rapidly, and Freddie even proposed to Mary! But... they were not destined to become a model family.

The reason for the breakup...

Rumours about Freddie's unconventional sexual orientation had been circulating for quite a long time. However, his constant relationship with Mary put them in doubt... As is known, Freddie and Mary had a really strong spiritual bond: the singer even dedicated a song "Love Of My Life", full of warm, yet sad words, to his beloved:

"The love of my life,
Don't leave me.
You took my love,
And now you've left me.
The love of my life,
Don't you understand?"

However, as is often the case, the rumours turned out to be true... Mary Austin later recalled:

"I was literally at a loss for words. I remember thinking, "I don't understand what's going on..." I was ready to find out he was cheating on me with a woman! But this... It was a complete shock..."

But you can't argue with nature. Freddie Mercury couldn't resist his nature, and soon he started having affairs... with men. His attraction to the male sex was beyond himself... He told Mary about it in 1976, to which Austin said:

"No, Freddie, I don't think you're bisexual. I think you're homosexual!" (of course, the last word was uttered by a disappointed Mary in a rougher way...).

They soon parted ways, with Mary moving into a neighbouring flat and Freddie immersing himself in wild parties... However, they remained good friends and Austin even worked for his management company!

Legendary musician Freddie Mercury died in November 1991... Shortly before his death, he signed a will that gave half of his vast fortune to Mary... Mary was at Freddie's bedside holding his hand when he passed away at the age of 45... She would later say:

"When Freddie was gone, I felt like I had lost my family... He was everything to me, apart from my sons... He was unlike any man I had ever met..."

After Mercury's death, Austin fulfilled his last wish, namely to hide his ashes. Where exactly she did it is still a mystery.

In autumn 2018, the long-awaited and rather scandalous film "Bohemian Rhapsody" was released on the big screens, the role of Freddie in which Rami Malek played. And although Austin did not take part in the creation of the film, she gave her consent... Her role was played by the charming British-American actress Lucy Boynton.

After Mercury's death, Mary never managed to establish a personal life: she divorced her husband and decided not to marry Piers Cameron, the father of her two children... Today, the 70-year-old woman lives as a recluse behind a high fence in a London mansion. It is said that fans still visit the mansion to this day, thus showing their immense reverence... Mary's neighbour said that "in the last four years, he has seen her two or three times..."
