Biography of Micah (group "Micah and Jumanji")
Mikhey (real name Sergey Krutikov) is a fairly well-known musician, author and performer in the rap / hip-hop genre among domestic listeners ... He was the leader of a notorious group, as well as the author of a number of timeless compositions. Among the main hits of the performer are “There”, “Mom”, “Bitch-Love”.
Unfortunately, at the age of 31, Micah passed away: the musician died in the fall of 2002. The cause was a detached blood clot ... After his death, his joint songs, such as "Love Remains", gained a new round of popularity. However, today we will remember not only the main hits of the artist, but also his biography - from early childhood to his death ...
Sergey Krutikov was born in December 1970 in the Donetsk region. From an early age, the boy was addicted to sports, but having received a serious injury (Sergei had a rank in judo), he turned his attention to music ... In many ways, this happened to Sergei's extraordinary find! The boy found an old accordion at home, which he later quickly learned to play. For some time he attended a music school.
In the second half of the 80s, Sergei and his family moved to Rostov-on-Don. There, the guy declared himself as an actor of the regional musical and drama theater. Parallel to this, his passion for hip-hop and breakdance wakes up ... Later he will tell:
“Students from other countries studied with us. They were close to all this - hip-hop, street dancing ... We often watched a movie in the spirit of "Breakdance". It was then that I realized that this is very cool and I want to do it!”
Sergei was also a member of the Frozen Point dance band, the leader of all-Union festivals! It was there that our hero received his now famous pseudonym - Micah!
In the mid-90s, Micah went to conquer the capital! Soon he will be talked about as a talented rap / hip-hop artist ...
Throughout his career, Micah has become known to a wide audience thanks to two groups, which we will talk about in more detail ...
History with Bad Balance
Bad Balance was conceived as a breakdancing group, but with the advent of Mikhey, it became musical. Krutikov played various instruments... In addition, he wrote recitatives. The lyrics remained with Vlad Valov, the leader of the band. The third participant was LA (aka Gleb Matveev). In total, the team recorded 4 albums, the most successful of which was "City of the Jungle". The guys toured a lot: in Russia and Europe! It is worth noting that they did not earn fabulous sums ... For some time they lived in Berlin, where they were engaged in breakdancing and washing cars ... for which the territory was cleared.
Everything changed when the group was noticed by a major producer. He offered the guys a contract, and they, of course, agreed! Starting from 1993, Bad Balance toured Europe a lot, gathering crowds of fans from different countries ... However, on the threshold of the 2000s, Micah left the team. As he stated in his interview:
“Within Bad Balance, I always lacked air, space ... I wanted something more solo. Therefore, I created a new project ... "
"Micah and Jumanji"
The idea to create a solo project came to the musician back in the mid-90s. Micah did not yet know what to call this project. But this did not stop him from composing songs that later became widely known and even popular ... Curiously, the group was inspired by the Jamiroquai video for the track "Space Cowboy":
Dressed in an Adidas suit, Jay Kay, the lead singer of the band, charmed Mikhey:
“I really liked his image! I don't know if he was a breaker or a musician... But I respect him for bringing 70s music to the big stage!"
The style of the Mikhey and Jumanji group can be described as a fusion of hip-hop, acid jazz, funk, soul and reggae ... Finally, Mikhey received the creative freedom that he had dreamed of for so long ... Now he wrote the lyrics and music of the songs himself, while while the arrangement was handled by his colleague Bruce. The biggest breakthrough for the group was the first and only album "Bitch Love", released in the spring of 1999. The key hit tracks from it were the compositions “There”, “Mom” and the eponymous “Bitch-Love”. By the way: the song was written a few years before the release of the album itself! Previously, Mikhei offered his creation to a number of radio stations, but they all refused ... The situation was saved by Olya Maksimova, a radio host, who brought the recording to the radio "Maximum". As a result, the track was put into rotation ...
So, the success of two songs made Mikhey the best performer of the year! Soon the band went on tour to promote the album...
Let's remember the best of Micah's repertoire!
In addition to the iconic "Bitch Love" and "Mom", Mikheya's song piggy bank includes the well-known, very gentle work "There". The author of the hit was the singer Inna Steel. The girl wrote the composition in 1997 as a tribute to her husband who died in a car accident ... Micah took part in the recording of the track as he was a friend of a young couple. Inna knew Krutikov since his time at Bad Balance…
"Road to the sea"
Another hit by Mikhey, which is a cover of the famous hit by Yuri Antonov. This song has an interesting story behind it! The fact is that before recording the track, Mikhey asked permission from Yuri Mikhailovich himself. He agreed (albeit reluctantly at first), but forgot (or maybe did not consider it necessary) to warn that the rights to the composition did not belong to him, but to Leonid Fadeev! Micah later recalled:
“Yuri Mikhailovich gave the go-ahead to record the song “Road to the Sea”. However, later we learned that the author of the words is not him, but Leonid Fadeev! We were literally stunned! A batch of discs has already hit the shelves ... Then we quickly corrected the rest .... "
According to the memoirs of Bruce, Mikhey's bandmate, at first Antonov refused the offer to create a remake:
“At first he didn't like our idea… However, when he heard our other songs… He quickly changed his mind! He liked our work. Without further ado, he gave us the song and allowed us to do whatever we want with it!”
Sergei Krutikov has never been married, however, in his life there was only one woman, Anastasia Filchenko. The couple lived together for several years. Anastasia did not leave the guy even after the stroke: until the last, she believed that everything would work out. The struggle for his life lasted 4 months, after which Sergei died ...
It all started in July 2002: right at the studio, Sergei became ill, the musician suffered a stroke. He was taken to the hospital, where he was placed in the intensive care unit. Soon he needed a $50,000 operation! There was no way to withdraw money from his account. Charitable fundraisers were announced… For some time Sergey could not speak, the right half of his body was taken away. Only by the end of August it became known that the artist's health is gradually improving! In early September, he was discharged from the hospital ...
Soon after that, a major concert was held in the capital's club "City". Part of the proceeds went to the artist's treatment. Groups such as Casta, Leningrad, Tet-A-Tet, Propaganda and others took part in it. The culmination of the show was the appearance of Micah himself!
Unfortunately, on October 27, 2002, Sergei passed away. On this day, friends came to the musician. According to the recollections of his older brother, who looked after the weakened performer, on the day of his death, Sergey got up on his own, had breakfast and changed clothes. When everyone left, he lay down to rest. He suddenly became ill - he began to choke. His brother gave him artificial respiration, but all in vain… A blood clot came off… The result was a complete cardiac arrest…
Mikhey is the personification of the domestic hip-hop scene. This is a vivid example of how a person can leave an invaluable legacy for decades to come in a short time of his activity ... It seems that the compositions “Bitch Love”, “Mom”, “There” will not lose their charm either today, or tomorrow, or through 10 years... Mikhey was a unique phenomenon in the Russian scene. It is not for nothing that his music never ceases to delight crowds of music lovers even today, when almost 20 years have passed since his death...
