Milli Vanilli - Musicians History ...
German pop duo Milli Vanilli was founded in the 1980s by Frank Farian. From the very beginning of their career, the popularity of Rob Pilatus and Fabrice Morvan rapidly began to gain momentum, and by the late 80s and early 90s Milli Vanilli had become one of the most popular pop teams of their time. Their debut album sold millions of copies worldwide, bringing the duo one of the most prestigious music awards - "Grammy". However, the success was short-lived... Soon the career of the guys was interrupted because of the scandal that spread all over the world. It turned out that the vocal parts used in the compositions did not belong to any of the members of the famous band... That is, they were performed by completely unauthorised people.
As a result of the scandal and exposure, the illustrious duo had to return the undeserved award, which caused irreparable damage to their reputation: worldwide popularity remained, however, now not the most pleasant...
The forgery, which remained a secret for a long time, was discovered in the following way: in the very year when the guys were awarded the Grammy Award, they had just gone on tour. During a live performance in a Connecticut park, the track "Girl You Know It's True" started to stick... Or rather, the phonogram, to which Rob and Fabrice simply opened their mouths. The song started bouncing hard, repeating the same line ad infinitum. It was probably the most disgraceful concert in the history of world music....
The idea to create a "fake" band came to his producer Frank Farian. He decided to create a team that could dance on stage, opening their mouths at the right moment, while the vocalists would be sung by completely different singers.
Intriguingly, the duo Milli Vanilli have sold over eight (!) million singles and over fourteen million albums in their history! After being exposed in lies, more than twenty lawsuits were filed against "sweet-voiced" Milli Vanilli and the record company Arista Records.
In an attempt to recover from this disgrace and somehow revive his former career, Frank Farian again took on the Milli Vanilli project in the late nineties. This time Rob and Fab had to sing with their real voices. However, time was already hopelessly lost... Pilatus became addicted to drugs and alcohol, and was also caught up in several thefts, for which he served several months in a Californian prison. After the unlucky duo's producer paid for the grief-stricken singer's treatment in a rehab centre, where Rob was treated for about six months. On the day when their new work with Fab saw the light of day and the presentation of the disc was already planned, Pilatus died. The singer was found dead in a hotel. According to the conclusion of experts, death occurred as a result of a mixture of drugs and alcohol. At that time Rob was thirty-two years old.
Fabias continued his unsuccessful attempts to revive his former career. At first, he worked as a singer for hire, and tried his best to improve his musical abilities. But critics called his real voice too bawdy and even vile... Fab then learnt the DJ desk and got a job on the radio. In the early noughties the singer organised a whole tour in the United States, and a few years later released his first solo disc "Love Revolution".
In 2006, a compilation of Milli Vanilli's greatest hits was released.
