The Cyberpunk 2077 game also features massive music that clearly trumps one of the most daring electronic compositions of the 1990s. In an effort to reflect the gritty aesthetic of 2077, music director Marcin Przybylowicz and composers P. T. Adamczyk and Paul Leonard-Morgan deliberately avoided the 80s-inspired micro-genres that are sometimes associated with the broader cyberpunk sci-fi genre (synthwave, outrun).

“We wanted to use industrial, IDM, techno, in a word, genres that are not necessarily score-friendly. We used musical techniques and distorted them, mixing them with other styles to create a narrative structure out of them."

They also brought Nine Inch Nails drummer Ilan Rubin to Poland to record, hoping to bring a "vague humanity" to the soundscape.

Previously, composer Marcin Przybylowicz has already curated the soundtrack for the CD Projekt Red game The Witcher. It's worth noting that this time around, the idea of radio stations that play music is very reminiscent of the iconic Grand Theft Auto... However, the presence of boomboxes and other speakers throughout Night City means your car isn't the only place you can hear the soundtrack. It would seem that the developers tried so hard not to break the immersion in the world of Cyberpunk 2077 that they initially assigned fictitious personalities to the artists appearing on in-game radio stations! In pre-release announcements, Tomb Mold became Bacillus, SOPHIE and Shygirl were announced as Clockwork Venus, and Run the Jewels took on the concept image of Yankee and the Brave (Ep. 4). This really deserves special attention...
