Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominations: nomination format, photos of nominees, clips
Eminem, Beck, Duran Duran, Pat Benatar, Lionel Richie and many more have been confirmed as the nominees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022.
The list of 17 artists was publicised 2 February 2022. It features both musicians who have been nominated in previous years and artists who are nominated for the first time.
The full list also includes: Kate Bush, Devo, Eurythmics, Judas Priest, Fela Kuti, MC5, New York Dolls, Dolly Parton, Rage Against The Machine, A Tribe Called Quest and Dionne Warwick.
Eminem was nominated for for the first time. This year marks the 25th anniversary of his first commercial recording. Beck, Duran Duran, Lionel Richie, A Tribe Called Quest, Carly Simon and Dolly Parton are also new nominees.
Benatar has been nominated in 2020 - this is her second nomination. Warwick and Kuti we will also see nominated for the second time, while MC5 are in the race for the sixth time and Rage Against The Machine for the fourth time. All the other artists on the long list nominated for the third time.
One thousand experts choose the winners among nominees by voting. The selection committee is made up of teachers, journalists, producers and others who have vast experience in the music industry. To be nominated, an artist must receive a minimum of 50% votes. Between five and nine artists are chosen each year. Fans will be able to voice their opinions with daily voting conducted on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame website or at the museum in Cleveland.
Final group winners The 2022 inductees will be announced in May, with the ceremony taking place this autumn at an as yet undisclosed location. Jay-Z, The Go-Gos, Tina Turner, Foo Fighters, Carole King and Todd Rundgren were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year.
