There is probably no one who has not heard this hit... And its history dates back to 2003! It was then that the song saw the light of day as part of DISCO-Zone - the studio album of the young Moldavian collective O-Zone.
In the end, "Love Under the Linden Trees" (that's how the title of the hit translates) was the biggest breakthrough in the young band's career!

A little about the song...
"Dragostea Din Tei" became the most successful single of the pop group O-Zone. The song received a lot of positive reviews from critics and also went viral far beyond the guys' home country... You could say that the track became an international hit!
The song topped the charts in a number of countries: France, Germany, Austria, UK... Amazingly, without realising it, O-Zone recorded the fourth most popular single of the 21st century in France! The record sold around 8,000,000 copies.

Gradually the popularity of the track came to naught... As time went by, people started to forget about the song, plus more and more new names and hits were leading the way... A new wave of fame was brought to the song by bloggers shooting various videos for it, as well as by artists who recorded covers of "Dragostea Din Tei".
In autumn 2012, a remix of the song was posted on YouTube under the title "Numa Numa Numa 2", recorded by its author Dan Balan (leader of O-Zone) with the participation of composer Marley Waters.
Overall, the song proved to be the most popular song at the time in Europe, taking the top position in more than 27 countries! And today "Dragostea Din Tei" is one of the best-selling singles of all time!
Curious fact, but part of the chorus is inspired by Piano Sonata No 17 (Mozart).
An English version of the song "Ma Ya Hi" performed by Balan and Lucas Prat was also later released:
