"Best Animated Feature Film" - "Soul."

Pete Docter's animated film created a real furore in the world of cinema after its release on the big screens... The animated film's box office collection in Russia and CIS countries exceeded 1 billion rubles, making it the most successful Disney and Pixar project in Russia! Soul was named Best Animated Feature Film at the Academy Awards 2021: Soul also won in the Best Soundtrack category....

The animated film tells about Joe Gardner - an ordinary school teacher with a big dream! All his life Gardner dreamed of playing jazz, and now - fate has given him the opportunity to realise his dream! But the teacher, who is overjoyed, does not notice an open trapdoor under his feet and... falls through. His soul goes to the other world, while the teacher himself goes to the intensive care unit. The attempt to escape ends very badly for Gardner: he gets to the World of Do, to the Soul Seminar... There he meets the soul "22", together with whom they have to find the "Spark" - with its help Joe has a chance to return to Earth... This cartoon was warmly received by both critics and the public. Some even noted that it was "the best Pixar project in the last ten years...".

"Best Feature Documentary" - "My Teacher Octopus"

A documentary film by Pippa Ehrlich, starring the producer himself, Craig Foster. The film shows us a whole year spent by Foster with a wild octopus... By the way: Craig Foster watched this octopus closely for most of his life. All in all - this film took about ten years to make! Underwater filming was the responsibility of cinematographer Roger Horrocks.

The film takes us back to 2010: that's when Craig Foster decides to go freediving in a cold forest of seaweed on the outskirts of South Africa... Gradually he finds a new friend underwater - a young octopus! Craig begins to visit his lair every day, thus gaining the trust of the underwater inhabitants... Unfortunately - at the end of the film the octopus dies. Later Foster will say that this period of his life had a huge impact on his worldview and his relationship with his son.

"Best Short Documentary Film" - "Colette."

"The real hero here is Colette herself, who has shared her story with honesty and determination," production director Oculus Studios said in a statement. "As we see in the film, resistance takes courage, but facing the past may require even more..."

"Colette" is a short documentary about how 90-year-old Colette Marin-Catherine confronts her past by visiting the German concentration camp of Mittelbau-Dora, where her brother was murdered... For 74 years she refused to set foot in Germany, but everything changed when a young history student named Lucy entered her life. Ready to reopen old wounds and revisit the horrors of that time, Marin-Kathrin teaches important lessons for us all...

"Best Foreign Film" - "One More" (Denmark)

"One More" - such an interesting title was given to the comedy-drama film by Thomas Vinterberg. The film is a co-production of Denmark, the Netherlands and Sweden. The plot tells about friends named Martin, Tommy, Peter and Nicholas. All of them are teachers at a high school in Copenhagen. On Nikolai's 40th birthday, the friends make a very interesting agreement, based on which - they will drink during working hours! The film received high praise from critics, who described it as "an intoxicating look at a mid-life crisis..."

"Best Animated Short Film" - "If Anything Happens, I Love You"

"If Anything Happens, I Love You" is a short animated film that tells the story of grieving parents...They are struggling to come to terms with the loss of their daughter, who is gone as a result of a school shooting.....

"Best Short Fiction Film" - "Two Distant Strangers."

"Two Distant Strangers" is a short film that explores the deaths of black Americans during confrontations with the police through the eyes of the protagonist... Cartoonist Carter James finds himself caught in a time loop: he is now reliving the beginning of the same day over and over again... And before he can return home to his beloved dog - he has to find a way out of this cycle of events....

In addition to the Oscar, the film was awarded Best Short Film by the African American Film Critics Association.

"Best Film" - "Land of the Nomads"

Chloe Zhao's film was an absolute triumph at the Oscars 2021... The film won in three categories at once: Best Film, Best Director and Best Actress! In addition, the film won the Golden Globe for Best Drama Film and Best Director.
