"Ramble On" (Led Zeppelin): A song inspired by the Lord of the Rings epic.
Содержание
The ancestor of "high fantasy" - the writer John Ronald Reuel Tolkien, or rather his work, has repeatedly served as a source of inspiration for Led Zeppelin. The most striking examples are "Misty Mountain Hop", "The Battle of Evermore" and "Ramble On". We are going to talk about the history of the latter today!
The story of the song
The authors of the composition are Jimmy Page and Robert Plant. As for the meaning, it is based on the characters, as well as numerous references to "The Lord of the Rings". True - it's worth noting that not only the cult epic inspired the rockers to create one of their most popular tracks. According to critics, "Ramble On" reflects Led Zeppelin's creative quest, as well as their busy touring life...
Recording
After being recorded during the second North American tour (1969), "Ramble On" was included on the Led Zeppelin II release.
Curiously enough, the band refused to perform their "fantastic" creation live for a long time... It happened only in 2007, during a concert at London's O2 Arena.
"Ramble On" later added to Rolling Stone magazine's legendary list of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time".
Music video
The music video for "Ramble On" was not filmed. The video is a fascinating slideshow of photos taken in different years of Led Zeppelin activity.
Covers of other artists...
One of the most successful covers of "Ramble On" is the version by American rock band Train:
Interesting fact: as you may have noticed, there is a mysterious instrument in the song... Some people think that John Bonham just played a bongo. However, others are convinced that it is not a bongo at all, but a guitar case or even a rubbish bin!
