Songs and soundtracks from the film "Where Do You Come From?" / "Mowgli Mogul" (2020)

"Where do you come from?"/"Mogul Mowgli" (2020) is a film about a musician (rapper), and above all a man who cannot continue his life until he faces the reality of his heritage. Tariq's film explores what it means to be a second-generation migrant and the role that inherited identity plays in today's multicultural society. Ahmed is phenomenal as a leader in a truly muscular performance, while Tariq's leadership and Annika Summerson's unflinching cinematography make Mowgli the Mogul an urgent, unsettling and complex experience.
Of all the British actors who have made a breakthrough in the last decade, Riz Ahmed has perhaps made the biggest impression. Since he rose to fame in Four Lions in 2010, he has appeared in several films and TV series including Night Kite, Night of Light, City of Tiny Lights and The OA. His new film Mogul Mowgli, which he is co-writing with director Bassam Tariq, is his most personal project so far.
After two years of touring, Zed (Ahmed) finally returns to see his family in London before embarking on his biggest tour yet. Whilst Zaheer's music is tied to his British-Pakistani identity, it's only when he returns home that he begins to face his past and what it means for the present. After being diagnosed with a degenerative disease that threatens to derail his big break, he finally begins to think about what matters to him.
