"Wonder Woman" was one of the most successful movies of 2017, so the second part of the film wouldn't be a surprise to anyone with a title like "Wonder Woman 2." But the fact that the franchise with Gal Gadot continues with a title (and setting) like "Wonder Woman: 1984" suggests that Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment are sending us to locations that surprise us, which will be easy to continue later if the viewer is willing. And it's not just '80s pop style that's meant here. There's something quite Orwellian about this title, isn't there?
Hans Zimmer returns to the fold as composer of "Wonder Woman: 1984" after previously seeming to have given up on superhero movies after the picture for which he created his favorite "Wonder Woman" theme: "Batman v Superman: The Dawn of Justice" .
Film Music Reporter has reported that Zimmer will move into the saga's music department and take over the reins from Rupert Gregson-Williams. This is Zimmer's second planned return to the genre, as he was also lured back to compose music for Simon Kinberg's X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
Of course, it's a great homecoming for the composer, as Zimmer composed the "Wonder Woman theme," which, along with Diana Gal Gadot, was considered the main event of Batman v. Superman. And while Gregson-Williams has done a solid job, we can't deny that this is good news and hopefully a sign that the DC universe is continuing its momentum after the 2017 film.
