The history of the cartoon. The Croods, released back in 2013, is an unsung gem in the DreamWorks Animation catalog, and one with a very complex and incredible story. It began life as one of the Aardman films that DreamWorks co-produced in the early-to-mid 2000s, from a screenplay by comedy legend John Cleese (his project had a much more edgy title: "Crood Awakening"). When the Aardman/DreamWorks partnership ended prematurely, DreamWorks kept the idea going, and years later Aardman made their own caveman movie (the lackluster 2018 movie "Early Man").
This new version (minus Cleese) was assigned to Chris Sanders, a Disney veteran whose storytelling sensibility was rivaled only by his exceptional sense of design, and Kirk DiMacco, a gifted writer and director with a long history in animation.
Plot. Together, the filmmakers turned the Croods into a wild prehistoric holiday full of crazy creatures... The Croods: A New Age picks up almost where the first movie left off - every other prehistoric family fights back anyway from insane creatures and trying to survive one catastrophe after another. And so, in the new installment, Ip (Stone) and Guy (Reynolds) want to start their own lives away from the suffocating family and the constant nervousness of Cage's troubled, thick-headed father Grug. Everything changes when they stumble upon a valley that uses advanced agricultural methods to grow vegetables and farm animals (including a bizarre chicken-seal hybrid). And most importantly, there is a vast and exquisite tree house!
