Van Halen legend Sammy Hagar and his best songs

His influence has not been lost over the years: today his name and contributions are highly valued by his followers and fellow contemporaries, and there is hardly a person who has not heard of Sammy Hagar.

Sammy Hagar: the musician's best songs and hits

For many years now Van Halen fans argue about who was the best vocalist of the group. David Lee Roth or Sammy Hagar? It's impossible to give an exact answer here, as they both did their jobs admirably and may have been similar in some ways (they were even born a few days apart!), but distant from each other... When Hagar replaced Roth, a flurry of outrage from fans of both followed. And while David's fans still wanted to see their favorite at the microphone, Sammy's admirers were upset that now they would not see solo records (and it was, for those were the terms of the contract).

Hagar is, in fact, an amazing and most worthy character in the history of rock! For his more than 50 years of career he was part of a dozen cool bands, from Montrose to the aforementioned Van Halen and the superband Chickenfoot! He started playing rock'n'roll and writing songs for his bands early on, but it wasn't until he started his solo career that real recognition came. His popularity skyrocketed in the 80's when Hagar became a big star: he toured, collaborated with other stars and his tracks were often played on the radio. Over the years, his influence has not been lost: Today his name and contributions are highly valued by his followers and fellow contemporaries, and there is hardly a person who has not heard of Sammy Hagar.

With a career that spans half a century, it's almost impossible to pick the best of the best songs. That's why we've tried to collect at least some of which are. So: this is a selection of some of the most beautiful, successful, and influential compositions performed by vintage Sammy Hagara! We tried to make solo hits a priority...

"Mas Tequila

Powerful solo hitwhich sounds like an invitation to some crazy rock and roll party!

Curiously, the groove is borrowed from "Rock And Roll Part 2 by Gary Glitter (Glitter and his co-writer Mike Leander got the credit). However, Hagar added his own touches that made this song terrific...

"I Can't Drive 55."

Legend has it that the inspiration for this surprisingly candid rock and roll revolt about road safety came to the horse-obsessed Hagar when he received frantic speeding tickets!

From his own recollection, Sammy wasn't such a bad guy: the cops pulled over his Ferrari as he was accelerating up to 62which in some parts of the city was perfectly legal.

"Red."

"Red." is the title track and a kind of anthem from Hagar's 1977 album of the same name, known to fans as Red Album.

The album as a whole is a great starting point for early Sammy, and presents one of the first A record that's definitely worth listening to at least once in your life.

"When It's Love."

Heartbreaking love songIn which Sammy Hagar demonstrates all the power and beauty of his voice.

What emotionality, piercing... Perhaps that's his best romantic number.

"Everyone is looking for something.
Something to fill in the holes.
We think about it a lot, but we don't talk about it much..."

"Poundcake."

A funny track that, according to some versions, was dedicated to the culinary abilities of Hagar's wife! Hence, in general, the uncomplicated name, which translates as "Pancake.".

"Poundcake" was Van Halen's answer to the fears of some fans who emphasized that their music had become a little heavy. Aside from Sammy, this track completely steals the Eddie Van Halen. What's his opening guitar riff alone?

"Your Love Is Driving Me Crazy"

Nice, romantic and very dance song, made in the best traditions of its time.

It was his biggest solo hit, the only one that made it into the top 20. It officially marked the beginning of his glory days, and only eleven months later an even bigger sequel followed...

"Finish What Ya Started"

A classy track in a semi-acoustic, "Western" country style. Sounds quite catchy! The excellent melody and Hagar's playful vocals made "Finish What Ya Started" a great number! But the black and white music video with very attractive beauties also contributed to its popularity...

And a few more great compositions to finish! Share in the comments how you feel about the work of old Hagar, and what first captivated you about this man? It will be interesting to read! And that's it for us.
