DJ equipment: how much does it cost to start a music career in 2021
Having discovered a musical gift in themselves, people do not always know how to show it to the world. It seems to many that it is simply impossible to become a DJ in the conditions of modern competition, because this requires influential acquaintances, systematic musical education and tens of millions of rubles. But in fact, it is in 2021 that novice composers have every chance of being heard and getting into the charts in Russia and other countries. The DJ shared his basic set with Fuzz Music Alexey Chertkovsky (Chertkovski) is a musician, DJ and composer. Alexey's compositions were played on Tomorrowland One World Radio, DJ Mag, NRG, Europa Plus, Radio Record, DFM and other popular radio stations. Alexey also works with major projects Savaya, Odyssey, Mantra Production and many others. He is supported by world stars. At the moment, he is preparing to release a musical collaboration with Russian singer Vlad Sokolovsky.
“Most young and talented musicians feel that they no longer have a place on stage. All genres have their leaders, no one notices newcomers in Spotify, and a studio recording costs fabulous money. From my own experience I can say that this is not the case. The only obstacle in your way is the fear of uncertainty and lack of understanding of current trends. In fact, the notion that DJing is fun for millionaires has long been a myth.
Anyone who wants to enter this market, I recommend taking a course. As a rule, such programs last several months, the average cost starts from 50,000 rubles. In addition, you can study in installments by taking an interest-free loan. The main thing is to choose the mentor whose works you like, and not save on self-education. Believe me, the investment will quickly pay off.
Studying in a good DJ school, you will be able to use high-quality equipment for free and improve your skills. But if you want to go further, then it makes sense to invest in your own technique. I can say in advance that this is where most of the money will go. However, you do not need to chase the most advertised models. Focus on the opinions of professionals and understand what is relevant to you. For beginner DJs, I would recommend paying attention to the following technique.
Pioneer RX 2 Channel DJ System
This model, unlike stationary club equipment, is convenient to take with you. It has all the necessary “stuffing”: a touch screen that allows you to control track peaks and splits; Needle Search, Track Filter and Short Cut functions. This setting also allows you to create mixes with smooth transitions and channel faders. Plus, you can connect a laptop and upload tracks from it directly to rekordbox. This simplifies the process of work and allows you to fully focus on creativity. The cost of such a DJ system is about 120,000 rubles. But it is not necessary to look for Pioneer brand equipment. The price of the cheapest controller that works with a laptop starts at 30,000 rubles. For the first time it will be enough, although the quality will be lower.
Pioneer CDJ 3000
But if you're willing to invest in the long run, the flagship multiplayer is the way to go. It costs more than the previous version - an average of 200,000 rubles. Plus, you need to buy a DJM 850 / 900 Nexus mixer for it, which will cost 150,000 rubles. But there are also more budget options, for example, CDJ 2000 Nexus 2. For the entire installation, you will pay approximately 150,000 rubles.
As you understand, a DJ cannot do without high-quality headphones. There are many options here, choose the model in which you will be comfortable working. In any case, I advise you not to save on headphones, the normal price is 15,000-20,000 rubles. From experience I can say that cheaper options do not last long.
Computer / Notebook
Here I will not surprise anyone and say that my personal choice is Apple technology. The computers of this brand have all the necessary functionality. On the other hand, you can buy an inexpensive option, but if you plan to compose compositions, it is better to purchase the most powerful model.
But there is an easier way - to rent a suitable studio with all the necessary equipment. Select the desired price range and convenient location. The cost of an hour of rent starts from 30$ (approximately 2300 rubles) and can go up to 200$ (approximately 15,000 rubles) and more. This way you will save millions of rubles that you would spend on buying your own equipment, and you will be able to change the studio if necessary, and not deal with the tedious sale of outdated equipment.
What equipment to choose and how much money to spend on it is up to you. The most important thing is to follow your inner voice and not be afraid to express yourself. Remember, even a jaded audience will not miss a good musician. Today is the best day to start!”
