The story of Thunderpussy - from debut album to huge stadiums
Содержание
Thunderpussy - charismatic female rock band from Seattle, a loud and proud quartet whose music combines a heavy dose of indie rock and arena rock bombast with a dash of humour. Every one of their live shows is a big spectacle... Formed in late 2013 by vocalist Molly Sides (former participant This Bitch Don't Fall Off) and guitarist Whitney Petty (veteran Grizzled Mighty), Thunderpussy quickly made a name for themselves in the local music scene and then went on to push boundaries and make a big name for themselves... The band toured extensively, but continued to perform at the Pacific Northwest.
A resounding debut and the works that followed
Listeners who thought rock was dead clearly weren't betting on a new all-female rock band Thunderpussy! Formed in late 2013 in the murky depths of Seattle, the quartet Thunderpussy is not just an all-female band, but a rock band, growling, bouncing and pulsing with timeless bravado... As much classic rock as delta blues, Thunderpussy incorporates all the most romantic iterations of rock music... All four members have been making music all their lives! How do we know that? It's just obvious...
The girls started working on their debut album in September 2016 of the year, under the direction of producer Sylvia Massey. While the contestants were mulling over offers from several labels, they met and, subsequently, became friends with the lead guitarist Pearl Jam by Mike McCready. It happened at the Sasquatch music festival! McCready was an immediate fan of the band, and the first single. Thunderpussycalled "Velvet Noose."was released on his label HockeyTalkter Records. He also contributed a guitar solo to the track... This song would later be used in a crime drama 2017 "Big Game.".
Enlisting the support of a major figure in the Seattle music scene, Thunderpussy quickly stepped out of the shadows: the band was being talked about outside of the Pacific Northwest... Already by the end of 2017 Thunderpussy struck a deal with the Stardog label, distributing Universal, and released a rocking cover version of the "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)":
In February. 2018 years Stardog released EP with four Thunderpussy songs, featuring tunes previously released as digital singles.
Five years and two Supreme Courts - the trademark story
It took five years and two Supreme Court cases to get there U.S.A.but in 2020 group Thunderpussy finally got a federal trademark... The hard rock female-fronted band applied for a trademark registration back in 2015, which they felt was common for a growing band that wanted to protect their intellectual property. Three months later, the Patent and Trademark Office UNITED STATES (USPTO) rejected the application, claiming that the name Thunderpussy violates the "Lanham's Law" 1946 of the year, referring to the vulgar definition of c urbandictionary.com.
"A group operating without a trademark is in a dangerous position," explained attorney Ben Kerr, who represented Thunderpussy pro bono in the case. "Imagine an unscrupulous third party coming in and selling counterfeit merchandise!" he said. "Tower Records no longer exists..."
Crazy live shows
The frontwoman of this wild band from Seattle can most often be seen folded in half on the floor, with a microphone collecting her sweat and breath... Although Thunderpussy's fierce independence long prevented them from starting work on their debut album, released only in the 2018 year, the band's live performances have become iconic.....
Any room that plays Thunderpussywhether it's the basement or the sunny scene in the Sasquatch- turns into a real rock arena ...
"To play a live show at 100 per cent is a reminder that we're still alive," says vocalist Sides. "We stand, breathe, laugh, drink, scream, fall, get up, move on. A life performance is a path to enlightenment..."
On stage. Molly Sides finds zen in pure, muscular expression, which in itself is a kind of manifesto of the virtues of rock'n'roll. She sexually squirms in all those sequins, howls, dives on stage and generally loses her mind, inviting the audience to do the same!
Yeah, the band Thunderpussy is certainly indebted to several obvious spiritual advisers, of whom the most obvious is the Sleater-Kinney. But to reduce them to simply the heir to revitalised glam rock would be too easy. They are something much fresher and newer... "Temple". Thunderpussy is gaining more and more followers today. And as they continue their unstoppable rock'n'roll explosion, one can only wonder how it will end....
