One hit story: Tom Jones and his Sex Bomb!
Содержание
This song is familiar to everyone, which is not surprising at all! After all, it became a mega-popular hit of the 2000s for a reason, and it remains so even today, two decades later! We are talking, of course, about Tom Jones' incendiary Sex Bomb!
History of Creation
Tom Jones recorded his biggest hit in tandem with Mousse T, a German DJ and producer specialising in house music.
And who would have thought that "Sex Bomb" ended up on the Reload album completely by chance! Here's what Tom Jones himself told in his interview:
"This song was born at the very, very end of our work on the album... We already had enough material. But when I heard the demo of this track, I said: "We have to record this!" I changed just a few words, and the lyrics became brighter, more interesting... Just imagine: we almost missed the biggest hit from this album! When I think about it, I feel bad...".
The rousing "Sex Bomb" was released as a single from the album Reload in the early 2000s. The song quickly became a popular dance hit, and reached number three in the UK singles chart. This made it the musician's second (after A Boy From Nowhere, which reached number two in 1987) major breakthrough hit.
Interesting facts
Tom Jones is remembered by many as a flamboyant character in tight trousers with a huge medallion on his chest... But, quite naturally, over the years he came to a more respectable image and direction in music. And not everyone liked this change. So, for example, representatives of EMI (who, by the way, lured the artist to their studio for £1.5 million) clearly expected from Jones a selection of incendiary tracks in the spirit of Sex Bomb. But the musician decided to embark on a "musical journey through the traditional spiritual repertoire..." David Sharp, the label's vice-president, commented: "You could say we paid for a Mercedes and got a hearse instead...".
During the live performances of Tom Jones, and in particular during the performance of "Sex Bomb", female fans of the artist threw their underwear on stage. And it's not just about the bra... Jones himself often bent down to wipe his forehead with the thrown underwear! And, as he himself admitted, he sometimes regretted it very much....
