One Hit Story: Tom Jones and his "Sex Bomb"!
This song is well known to everyone, which is not at all surprising! After all, it was not without reason that it became a mega-popular hit of the 2000s, and remains so even today, two decades later! This, of course, is about the incendiary Sex Bomb by Tom Jones!
History of creation
Tom Jones recorded his biggest hit in tandem with Mousse T, a German house music DJ and producer.
And who would have thought that “Sex Bomb” ended up on the Reload album completely by accident! Here is what Tom Jones himself said in his interview:
“This song was born at the very, very end of our work on the album ... We already had enough material. But when I heard the demo of this track, I said: “We have to record this!” I corrected literally a few words, and the text became brighter, more interesting… Just imagine: we almost missed the biggest hit from this album! When I think about it, I feel uneasy…”
The incendiary "Sex Bomb" was released as a single from Reload in the early 2000s. The song quickly became a popular dance hit and also reached number three on the UK Singles Chart. This made her the second (after A Boy From Nowhere, which took second place in 1987) major breakthrough musician.
Tom Jones was remembered by many as a bright character in tight-fitting trousers with a huge medallion on his chest ... But, quite naturally, over the years he came to a more respectable image and direction in music. And not everyone liked these changes. So, for example, representatives of EMI (who, by the way, lured the artist to their studio for 1.5 million pounds) clearly expected from Jones a selection of incendiary tracks in the spirit of Sex Bomb. But the musician decided to go on a "musical journey through the traditional spiritual repertoire ..." Then David Sharp, vice president of the label, commented: "You can say that we paid for a Mercedes, but instead got a hearse" ...
During live performances by Tom Jones, and in particular during the performance of "Sex Bomb", the artist's fans threw their underwear onto the stage. And now it's not just about the bra... Jones himself often leaned over to wipe his forehead with thrown underwear! And, as he himself admitted, sometimes he regretted it very much ...
