A film about Viktor Tsoy is released in the cinema
Содержание
In September this year, the film "Tsoi" will be released. Filmed by the famous Russian director Alexey Uchitel, it tells about the death of the Russian rock legend, as well as about the following days, when the coffin with the musician's body was delivered by bus from Latvia to Leningrad..... It should be noted at once that the picture is more mythological than biographical. Therefore, one should not be surprised that some of the events in it are fictitious.
Storyline
The biography of Victor Tsoi himself was partly the basis of the film. The film is set on a Latvian motorway. It is there that the idol of millions dies: the Moskvich of the popular musician crashes into an oncoming bus... Tsoi dies on the spot.
The irony of the film lies in the fact that the driver of that very ill-fated bus has to deliver the body of the Russian rock legend to Leningrad. Of course, none of those who had the fate to accompany the idol on his last journey even suspects that the bus contains the second participant of the fatal accident....
Additional "heat of passions" is added by the disappearance of the cassette on which Victor Tsoi's last song was recorded... As it was mentioned above, the film is not biographical. There is no actor playing Tsoi in it. The image of the musician was built from details: lines and dialogues of the characters, their emotional reactions.
"The plot of this film is in the style of a road-movie. The main character here is the driver who took the life of the idol of millions... I didn't want to make a biographical film! I wanted it to have something mythological... I consider Victor Tsoi a true phenomenon... Even today, so many years after his death, he remains at the peak of his popularity... It's amazing!".
The start of production was announced back in 2017! At that time, director Kirill Serebrennikov started shooting the film Summer. The film was about the process of recording the debut album of the band Kino.
"Serebrennikov showed the beginning of Tsoi's journey... And we - his tragic end" - commented Alexei.
The final scene promised to be footage from the concert of the band "Kino", which Alexei Uchitel personally shot more than 30 years ago!
"We specifically refused to have an actor play Tsoi. We bought the rights to perform eight songs of the group "Kino", as well as a video featuring Tsoi himself... I believe that much more will give the viewer a sense of presence of the idol than just an actor..." - emphasised Uchitel.
Interesting facts about the film...
The original title of the film was "47" (a reference to Kino's last album).
The film was shot not only in Latvia and St. Petersburg, but also in the Kaliningrad and Pskov regions.
In total, the budget of the film was $150 million!
The release date (3 September) was chosen for a reason:
"I personally knew Viktor and his entourage... I always admired his human qualities and his unconditional talent... And today, decades later, his music finds a fervent response among modern listeners... I think it is very important to release the film exactly at the beginning of autumn, as a tribute to the memory of a great idol..." - commented Alexei Uchitel.
