Typhoons is the third studio album by the rock duo Royal Blood, which was announced for release in the spring of 2020. Due to the outbreak of the corona virus, the release of the album was postponed to April 2021. Back in September 2020, the single "Trouble's Coming" was published and became part of the FIFA 21 soundtrack! The single of the same name was released in early 2021. Who are the Royal Bloods and why has 'Typhoons' already taken the internet by storm? First things first…
Who are the Royal Bloods?
Royal Blood is a British rock music duo. The project was formed in Brighton in 2011. Line-up: bassist-vocalist Mike Kerr and drummer Ben Thatcher! The sound of Royal Blood is built on the basis of a unique bass playing technique: Kerr uses various kinds of effects pedals, thereby making the sound of the electric bass as similar as possible to a real electric guitar ... At the moment, the guys have 3 studio albums (including "Typhoons"). It is noteworthy that for the first time Mike and Ben met in 2005, in the Flavor Country group: at that time they were teenagers ...
Over the years of their musical activity, Royal Blood have achieved great success! So, in 2019, they presented Jimmy Page with the Icon Award! As can be judged from the sound of Royal Blood, they were influenced by such masters as Robert Plant, John Bonham, Queen... As a result, the musicians managed to recreate their own unique style, which has already attracted the attention of the general public!
Typhoons idea...
Surely the fans of the duo were sure of what Royal Blood was capable of after two number one albums in the UK, two million sales and various international recognitions... However, "Trouble's Coming", released in the fall of 2020, destroyed any prejudices and ideas... It became obvious: this Since Royal Blood have focused on incendiary rock riffs and dance beats! Unexpectedly for everyone, the duo presented something fresher and brighter than before ... And the public reaction to their new track was enormous: 20 million streams ... The single hit the cover of the Spotify Rock This playlist and received alternative radio support and media attention around the world!
Mike Kerr and Ben Thatcher knew from the very beginning what they wanted from the new album… Their idea included a conscious return to their early roots: to the period when they were inspired by Daft Punk, Justice and Cassius… And their unique approach to recording did the trick: tracks from the album sound unusually exciting, intuitive and original! You can see this for yourself, just listen to the single "Trouble's Coming" and the eponymous "Typhoons" ... Kerr's growing bass riff sounds especially hypnotic, while his voice varies from a rock roar to a soulful falsetto ... All this charm is reinforced by Thatcher's thunderous beats …
You could say that "Trouble's Coming" set the tone for the whole album! You immediately feel the laid-back style and furious metal rhythms ... All this is literally breathtaking! The album closes with the piano ballad "All We Have Is Now", which serves as a frank reminder that you need to live here and now ... The carefree mood of this song adds charm and lightness to the album! Whether directly or indirectly, "Typhoons" focuses on exploring the downside of the success that the members of Royal Blood have experienced personally...
“It comes from the realization that success is a lot harder than it looks! In fact, the time it takes to regain perspective is a precious commodity that is becoming increasingly elusive…”

Conclusion…
Speaking about the new album, Royal Blood frontman Mike Kerr emphasizes:
“We stumbled upon this new sound quite by accident, and you know what? We immediately became interested in playing him, working with him! Chasing this unfamiliar feeling is what really inspired us to create Typhoons... Ben and I quickly realized that we don't have to completely destroy everything we've created so far. It was enough just to move it, combine it and, perhaps, change something! It sounds so fresh... 'Typhoons' is something that can get you lost like hell in your own thoughts!"
There is so much you can do in a two piece band and Royal Blood knew something had to develop in their sound for this album! Exactly what they did on "Typhoons" and "Trouble's Coming". It sounds fresh and exciting! And if they'd taken the path they've had significant success with on their first two records, there's a chance their sound would have become stale...
