Royal Blood album "Typhoons" by Royal Blood: idea, tracks ...
Содержание
"Typhoons" is the third studio album by rock duo Royal Blood, which was announced back in the spring of 2020. Due to an outbreak of coronovirus infection, the album's release was pushed back to April 2021. Back in September 2020, the single "Trouble's Coming" was released and became part of the FIFA 21 soundtrack! The single of the same name was released in early 2021. Who are Royal Blood and why has "Typhoons" already blown up the internet? Let's talk about everything in order...
Who is Royal Blood?
Royal Blood is a British musical duo positioned in the genre of rock. The project was formed in Brighton in 2011. Composition: bassist-vocalist Mike Kerr and drummer Ben Thatcher! The sound of Royal Blood is based on a unique bass playing technique: Kerr uses various effects pedals, thus making the sound of electric bass as similar as possible to a real electric guitar... At the moment the guys have 3 studio albums (including "Typhoons"). It is noteworthy that Mike and Ben first met in 2005, in the band Flavour Country: at that time they were teenagers...
Royal Blood have achieved great success over the years in their musical endeavours! For example, in 2019, they presented Jimmy Page with the Icon Award! As you can judge from the sound of Royal Blood, they have been influenced by such maestros as Robert Plant, John Bonham, Queen... As a result, the musicians have managed to recreate their own unique style, which has already attracted the attention of the general public!
The idea behind Typhoons...
Fans of the duo must have been sure of what Royal Blood were capable of after two number one albums in the UK, two million sales and various international accolades... However, "Trouble's Coming" released in autumn 2020 shattered any preconceptions and notions... It became obvious: this time Royal Blood put the emphasis on rocking rock riffs and danceable beats! Unexpectedly, the duo presented something fresher and brighter than before... And the public reaction to their new track was tremendous: 20 million streams... The single made the cover of Spotify Rock This playlist and received alternative radio support and media attention all over the world!
Mike Kerr and Ben Thatcher knew from the very beginning what they wanted from the new album... Their idea included a conscious return to their early roots: to the period when they were inspired by Daft Punk, Justice and Cassius... And their unique approach to recording did the trick: the tracks on the album sound extremely exciting, intuitive and original! You can see for yourself, just listen to the single "Trouble's Coming" and the eponymous "Typhoons"... Kerr's growing bass riff is particularly hypnotic, while his voice ranges from a rocking roar to a soulful falsetto... All this charm is backed up by Thatcher's thundering beats....
You can say that "Trouble's Coming" set the tone for the whole album! You can immediately feel the laid-back style and fierce metal rhythms... It's literally breathtaking! The album closes with the piano ballad "All We Have Is Now", which serves as a blatant reminder that life should be lived in the here and now... The carefree mood of this song adds charm and lightness to the album! Whether directly or indirectly, "Typhoons" focuses on exploring the downside of the success that the members of Royal Blood have experienced personally...
"It comes from the realisation that success is much harder than it seems! In fact, the time it takes to regain perspective is a precious commodity that is becoming increasingly elusive..."

Conclusion...
Speaking about the new album, Royal Blood frontman Mike Kerr emphasises:
"We stumbled upon this new sound completely by accident, and you know what? We were immediately interested in playing it, working with it! Chasing that unfamiliar feeling is what really drove us to create 'Typhoons'... Ben and I realised abruptly that we didn't have to completely destroy everything we had created so far. It was just enough to shift it, combine it and maybe change something! It sounds so fresh... 'Typhoons' is something you can get hellishly lost in your own thoughts thanks to!"
There is only so much you can do in a band of just two people, and Royal Blood knew that something had to evolve in their sound for this album! Actually, which they have done on "Typhoons" and "Trouble's Coming". It sounds fresh and exciting! And if they had chosen the way they had achieved considerable success on their first two records, there would have been a chance that their sound would have become outdated...
