The story behind the song "Our Song" (2020) - Willie Nelson
Gorgeous Willie Nelson unveiled to the early 2020 public a new track "Our Song" from his studio album "First Rose of Spring", which was released on 24 April 2020.
The songwriter of "Our Song" is Chris Stapleton, who has performed frequently with Nelson over the past few years. "I can safely say that Willie Nelson is a performer who has been a huge influence on my music," Stapleton noted. "There's nothing better than hearing him sing a song I wrote."
Our Song is the second track from the new LP that Willie has unveiled to the public. It's a light-filled ballad in which the 86-year-old singer and composer talks about looking back on his long life and drawing strength from love and friendship throughout his existence.
In this time that I've been given/To fill my life with living (For the time I've been given to fill existence with life), sings Willie Nelson in the opening section. And then he goes on I hope I've done the best that I can do (I hope I did the best I could).
Our Song isn't the first time Nelson and Stapleton's work has crossed paths on record. Chris recorded a cover of Willie's 1982 track Last Thing I Needed, First Thing This Morning, which was included on Stapleton's album From A Room: Volume 1, released by the musician in 2017.
Stapleton and Nelson were scheduled to perform together at the new Texas Rangers ballpark in Arlington in late March 2020. But the event became another "victim" of the coronavirus. The concert was postponed until later in the year.
