It was a springboard for U2
By the time of the speech at the "Live Aid" by U2 were already an established band with 10 years' experience. However, it was this gig that proved to be the turning point in the Dublin-based rock band's career. Kicking off with their famous hit "Sunday Bloody Sunday"U2 took a big risk by playing. "Bad." - an experimental and admittedly "unfinished" song from their latest album at the time "The Unforgettable Fire". It worked, though!
The guys spent the last few days before the show in exhausting rehearsals, resulting in a concert version of the "Bad." has found a new form! Soon after the festival, the Irish band found worldwide success, and all because they knew how to capitalise on the key…
...and failure for Duran Duran.
What can't be said for Duran Duran. With the opportunity to perform at one of the most global festivals in history, the members of the new-wave and synth-pop collective literally let the golden crane slip from their hands. The vocalist's voice Simon Le Bon wheezing and squealing throughout the performance, and the rest of the band apparently had some timing issues....
Their moment of glory turned out to be so tragicIt was not long after the concert that the band turned into a trio - Duran Duran did not gather together on the same stage of the subsequent concert. 20 years.
Years later Andy Taylor would say, "There were no friendly hugs or smiles after the Live Aid show... It was like we were strangers to each other".
Phil Collins showed unbridled enthusiasm
Phil Collins he was the kind of artist who understood right away: "Live Aid." - best opportunity to make himself known to the world, and therefore it's something to grab on to! And at the same time, Collins made the expression "one foot here, one foot there" very vital: on the same day, he performed at the John F. Kennedy in Philadelphia, and on "Wembley." in London! Performing their solo hits including. "Against All Odds." и "In the Air Tonight"as well as graciously lending his backing vocals to the PoliceCollins finished his stardom in the UK, got on a plane and set off to conquer the American public. On top of all that, he also drummed that day for the Eric Clapton played, and at the ill-fated reunion. Led Zeppelin showed up! But more about that a little later....
But Collins decided not to stop there. It just so happened that out of England he was on a plane with Cher. Apparently, he decided that it would be inappropriate for a star like Cher to miss such a global event, and so he took an interest and persevered attracted a companion to a charitable act.
The microphone prevented Paul McCartney from performing "Let It Be."

Bono rescued a groupie
"Live Aid." gave the already mentioned U2 an opportunity to get closer to their fans. And the band decided that if they were going to use this gift, they should use it to the fullest! Well, at least that's what their lead vocalist Bono was guided by... During their performance "Bad." he dived into the crowd, and in the next instant pulled out a 15-year-old a girl on stage! It was a standard trick to attract the audience, however, this time it took too long... Alas, but comrades Bono The band were not at all prepared to stretch an already risky number for extra minutes while their lead singer flirts with a female fan. After the show, the band members U2 even worried, believing that it would spoil their reputation... But nothing of the sort happened: journalists and the public praised the band's number, with warm wishes and enthusiastic comments!
Many years later, it turned out that Bono was then salvage fan. In her interview, the now 35-year-old Cal Halik she said:
"The crowd surged and I started to choke... That's when I saw Bono - he reached out his hand to me."
The infamous Led Zeppelin reunion.
"Live Aid" 1985 The year saw a lot of reunions and collabs, but the most notable and sad at the same time was the reunion of the surviving members of Led Zeppelin... Their performance can be described as disastrous. And yes, it was the first time in recent memory 5 yearsafter he was gone. John Bonham. The factors that led the iconic rock monsters to fail were many: the guitar Jimmy Page upset, and the equipment is out of order, and if the Robert Plante I've lost my voice in rehearsal. John Paul Jones gave up on her altogether.
But one thing the members of Zeppelin were still united in. hatred к Phil Collinswho took a place behind the drum kit in this creative chaos. Years later, Collins will say:
"After many years I noticed that I was being blamed for Zeppelin's failed reunion. No, of course the saints of Led Zep can't be blamed for their own failure. They just didn't even rehearse properly... Everybody thinks that it's my fault for that debacle. And I think that their behaviour and their unwillingness to perform properly played a key role in it!"
