But soul - soul is always highly valued.
So is Antonov a genius? Definitely. Nothing like this has ever happened before or since, alas. And it is unlikely to happen. The times are such now - effects and pathos decide. Unfortunately, there is not much soulful music today - and there is nothing even remotely close to Antonov's style! It can't help but sadden.
But at the same time, one cannot help but be delighted by the fact that the Soviet maestro's songs have not lost their popularity. They are still played on the radio, they are still sung... We are sure that even after several decades, these marvellous songs will continue to resound and delight generations.
