Moving On - Leonard Cohen
In November, Colombia Records and Legacy Recordings released Thanks For The Dance , Leonard Cohen's posthumous release, produced primarily by his son Adam Cohen (with support from Beck, Feist and others). The album is assembled from vocal tracks that were recorded during sessions for his 2016 album You Want It Darker. The late artiste's album was universally acclaimed, with critics deeming it great as a "last grace note".
In celebration of the album, digital video channel NOWNESS collaborated with several filmmakers to create the film "Thank You For The Dance: artistic responses to Leonard Cohen" and to create collections of video responses to each track on the album. On Friday, they shared the video for the track "Moving On" by Laura Provost and Ciaran Wood. The video is thought to be a tribute to one of Cohen's favourite retreats, the Greek island of Idra.
"There is a nostalgic Mediterranean romance in the music and vocals," Adam Cohen said in a statement. "We wanted to conjure up the narrator's memories of Idra, to take him back to the house where he wrote 'Bird on a Wire' with the ghostly presence of Marianne in the next room."
The video is shot in first person and plays as a quick montage of several ephemeral images. There's a cat, then an orange floating in water, then a grey and white horse with a rider... It all has a romance, like everything Cohen does. He turns a series of videos into a legacy, a loving and dedicated tribute, if you will....
