Led Zeppelin songs written by Jimmy Page
Содержание
Today, at the very centre of popular music, alongside genres such as country and hip-hop, is still the classic rock. And at the centre of classic rock is a British band Led Zeppelin. Undoubtedly, each member of this in every sense cult band has made his contribution to the development of the genre, which is difficult to overestimate. However, vocalist Robert Plant and guitarist Jimmy Page were the main idols of the public throughout the Zeppelins' history.
These two are beloved by the nation as the main and most colourful stars of every Led Zeppelin show, but also as prolific author duo: Plant and Page wrote such epochal masterpieces as "Stairway to Heaven" and "Whole Lotta Love". But while many of the band's hits were the fruits of their joint efforts, there are some songs that Page wrote for Led Zeppelin solo. And for some music lovers, these are some of their favourite tunes... Perhaps even for you!
However, we suggest you personally check our assumption and read the "Page's three." - That's what we've decided to call our selection of songs written by none other than the master of the six-string. Let's begin...
Tangerine, or mysterious inspiration.
This acoustic song, released in 1970 on Led Zeppelin's third album, is all about the of love, passion and loss. The intro to the track is one of the most famous and beautiful pieces of music in the Zeppelins' career, and in the song itself, vocalist Robert Plant laments the loss of beauty and warm feelings... "Tangerine." (as the title translates) shows how rich and unique Page's poetic gift has always been. Specifically, it sings here:
"Watching the summer day go out,
As its colours fade
And I'm in more pain by the hour.....
Tangerine, tangerine,
The living glow of my dream,
I was loved, she was my queen,
But hundreds of years have passed..."
"Tangerine" was actually recorded a few years earlier with Page's previous band, The Yardbirds. Back then, the track was called "Knowing That I'm Losing You.". What was the inspiration for such a sensual ballad remains a mystery to this day. However, the beautiful and lovelorn lyrics hint that it was a woman. Perhaps an early love of Page's. Who knows... In any case, as long as the mystery remains, the composition continues to stir the minds of listeners and lead them to curious reflections, which is one of the main advantages of any work, isn't it?
Black Mountain Side - a new reading of a folk classic
Instrumental song "Black Mountain Side." (which translates to "Black Mountain Slope.") was released in 1969 on Led Zeppelin's debut album of the same name. It is an adaptation of an arrangement of the traditional folk song "Down by Blackwaterside" by Scottish guitarist Bert Jensch. In one of his interviews Page recalled:
"The song was often played in folk clubs, and I'd heard many different versions. But then I heard it performed by Jensch, and that was the impetus, some unusually strong inspiration..."
In the zeppelin version, Paige is playing complex acoustic arrangementand also features psychedelic, almost Indian percussion. It's a very prominent piece in the band's catalogue today, and stands out from everything Led Zeppelin ever did. And here, by the way. Jensch's version:
What do you think - whose rendition sounds more appealing?
Bron-Yr-Aur: the song that's been saved for 5 years.
This two-minute acoustic instrumental song was included on the 1975 album "Physical Graffiti.". The name was inspired by the old 18th century cottage in Wales where the band stayed in 1970 when they were working on material for the Led Zeppelin III and Led Zeppelin IV albums.
Although "Physical Graffiti" was released in 1975, this acoustic instrumental was recorded back in 1970. And now, finally, it's waiting for its stardom! It is also one of the most interesting pieces in the Zeppelin catalogue today.
One last thing
Yes: perhaps the compositions listed above are far from the status of hits, and are more interesting to devoted fans than to the general public. However - they demonstrate Jimmy Page's self-contained vision. The fact that Page worked on them soloThis makes them very appealing to fans of the guitarist, as well as allowing us to look at Jimmy's legacy and contributions from a completely different and unfamiliar angle....
