Robert Glasper was interviewed by Ebro to talk about "Black Radio III", new genres and the new album
To conclude "Black History Month," Robert Glasper visited Ebro to talk about his albums "Black Radio", "Black Radio III", transitioning between genres, collaborations with H.E.R. and Esperanza Spalding, winning a Grammy for "Better Than I Imagined", next album "Dinner Party" and more.
In the interview. affected the topic of balancing fun and politics on Black Radio III. Glasper said:
Some people use music to escape. If you know what I mean? And I have to balance that and think about it. But with this "Black Radio"..... album, I haven't made a "Black Radio" record in eight years. And I was like, "You know what? I've got something to say." Especially in the last three years, you know what I mean? Anyway, it's been so much, but like the last three years, we've been able to really pay attention to it because we've been home, it's been a pandemic, so much has happened. So I wanted to just address the bunch of elephants in the room above and get them out of the way.
Glasper also shared some of the interesting facts about new music.
I can tell you now that I'm going to put out an expanded version of "Black Radio III" with more songs and interludes that can stand on their own, because it's a completely different album. If you know what I mean? So that's what's going to happen now.
Like its predecessors, the new studio the album celebrates the joy, love, resilience of black people and includes the Grammy Award winning single "Better Than I Imagined" featuring H.E.R + Meshell Ndgeocello and "Shine" featuring D Smoke and Tiffany Gouché. The "Black Radio III" record also features the aforementioned Q-Tip and Esperanza Spalding, Jennifer Hudson, H.E.R. Yebba, Common, Ty Dolla $ign, Ant Clemons, India.Arie and others.
Glasper, pondering about the project, saying:
I couldn't think of a better way to celebrate Black Radio's 10th anniversary than by releasing Black Radio III... I hope this move inspires more.
