Sammy Hagar: the musician's best songs and hits
Содержание
For years now. Van Halen fans arguing over who was the best singer in the band - David Lee Roth or Sammy Hagar? It's impossible to give a definite answer here, as both did their jobs admirably and were perhaps similar in some ways (they were even born a few days apart!), but at the same time far apart... When Hagar replaced Roth, there was a flurry of outrage from fans of both. While David's fans still wanted to see their favourite at the microphone, Sammy's fans were upset that they would not be able to see their favourite at the microphone anymore solo records (and it is so, for such were the terms of the contract).
Hagar is actually an astounding and most worthy character in rock history! For his over a 50-year career he was part of dozens of cool bands, from Montrose to the aforementioned Van Halen to the supergroup Chickenfoot! He started playing rock'n'roll and writing songs for his bands early on, but it wasn't until he started his solo career that he really gained recognition. His rise to fame came in the 80s when Hagar became a big star: he toured, collaborated with other stars and his tracks were often played on the radio. Over the years, his influence was not lost: today his name and contributions are highly valued by his followers and fellow contemporaries, and there is hardly a person who has not heard of Sammy Hagar.
With a career that spans half a century, it's almost impossible to pick the best of the best songs. That's why we've tried to gather at least some of them. So: this is a selection of some of the most beautiful, successful and influential compositions performed by the oldies Sammy Hagara! Tried to prioritise solo hits ....
"Mas Tequila."
Powerful solo hitthat sounds like an invitation to some kind of crazy rock 'n' roll party!
Curiously, the groove is borrowed from the "Rock And Roll Part 2" by Gary Glitter (Glitter and his co-writer Mike Leander were credited with authorship). However, Hagar added his own touches that made this song a terrific...
"I Can't Drive 55"
Legend has it that the inspiration for this surprisingly candid. of a rock 'n' roll riot about road safety came to the horsepower-obsessed Hagar when he was getting frantic speeding tickets!
By his own recollection, Sammy wasn't such a bad guy: the cops pulled over his Ferrari as he was speeding up up to 62which in some parts of the city was perfectly legal.
"Red."
"Red." is the title track and an anthem of sorts from Hagar's 1977 album of the same name, known to fans as the Red Album.
The album as a whole is a great starting point for early Sammy, and represents the one of the first a cover of a Patti Smith song! A record definitely worth listening to at least once in your life.
"When It's Love"
Heartbreaking love songin which Sammy Hagar showcases the power and beauty of his voice.
The emotionality, the poignancy... I guess that's his. best romantic number.
"Everybody's looking for something
Something to fill the holes.
We think about it a lot, but we don't talk about it much..."
"Poundcake."
A funny track that, in some versions, was dedicated to to the culinary skills of Hagar's wife! Hence, in fact, the simple name, which translates to "Pancake.".
"Poundcake" was Van Halen's response to the concerns of some fans, who emphasised that their music had become a a little heavy. Aside from Sammy, this track completely steals the . Eddie Van Halen. His opening guitar riff alone is worth what?
"Your Love Is Driving Me Crazy."
Pleasant, romantic and very dance songin the best traditions of its time.
It was his biggest solo hitthe only one to make the top 20. It officially kicked off his glory days, and an even bigger follow-up followed just eleven months later....
"Finish What Ya Started"
Chic track in semi-acoustic, kind of "western" rustic style. It sounds quite fun! The excellent melody and Hagar's playful vocals made "Finish What Ya Started" a great number! But the black and white music video with very attractive hotties also contributed to its popularity....
And some more excellent compositions for last! Share in the comments, how do you feel about the work of old Hagar, and what was it that first captivated you? It will be interesting to read! And that's all for now.
"Heavy Metal."
"Little White Lie."
"Eagles Fly."
