A selection of Talking Heads' best songs
Содержание
Talking Heads were one of the most influential, and at the same time, the strangest bands to emerge from the punk movement of the mid- and late '70s... And not just because their frontman. David Byrne was a total weirdo, made famous by his legendary "geometric suit"! In an era when fans were forced to side with the classic rock'n'roll they were used to and this new variation of it - partly inspired by disco glam, partly by garage energy -... Talking Heads almost immediately found a sensitive audience in the form of traditional rock fans, who undoubtedly heard a rough rock band buried somewhere within the art-rock rhythm they often produced... It also helped that they were a funky band - dancing to the Talking Heads was a lot easier than, say, under a Molly Hatchet... Today we decided to remember the best songs of the band, hits that have not lost their relevance to this day! They include pop, punk, new wave, R&B and rock 'n' roll.which makes it a real treat for the music lover. So, make yourselves comfortable, here we go...
"Once in a Lifetime"
Composition from the album Remain in Light 1980 of the year. Much of the success "Once in a Lifetime" can be attributed to his groundbreaking (and highly quirky) video, one of the first to be widely distributed on the MTV. The song didn't become a hit (it didn't even make it into the top 100), but its influence is huge. Like the rest of the album (by the way: Remain in Light is considered the best album of the band), "Once in a Lifetime" - is a rhythmically adventurous foray into African musical styles.
In close collaboration with the producer Brian Eno the band created one of the landmark albums 80-х... Almost every song on the record is great. This is the greatest breakthrough in music!
"Psycho Killer"
An early recording from the album "Talking Heads: 77"which became the band's first hit. Like many other tracks on our list, "Psycho Killer" has an elastic bass line that pretty much drives the whole piece... And it incorporates one of the most bizarre vocal techniques of all Byrnewhich is perfect for voicing the thoughts of a serial killer!
"Burning Down the House"
Breakthrough the Talking Heads hit from their breakthrough album Speaking in Tongues expanded the global sound and styles into which the band had so enthusiastically immersed itself in the Remain in Light…
"Road to Nowhere"
After a series of albums that grew in size and sound, the quartet cut their sixth album, a return to their roots that explored the America through the lens of a modern rock band... There's a distinctly New York art school feel to this sound, and that's probably the point.
And this great single is the closest thing to country music, and the road that leads the band there is definitely a fun one!
"This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody)"
"This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody)"the highlight of a terrific fifth album. Talking Heads! A love song is a rarity for a band that usually avoided such mundane topics.
Nevertheless, it's a love song with an artistic bent. The beautiful music takes the song to a more down-to-earth place.....
"Love Goes To Building On Fire"
The band's debut single set the tone for the next few years! This nervous, spastic popwhich sounded like it was composed by a bunch of naughty art school kids. But the song also has a serious hook that belies the band's more punk tendencies. And there's a lot more to it than meets the eye.....
"And She Was"
The first track of the sixth album Talking Heads also became the most popular single (although it stopped at the 54th placeThe record itself remains the band's best-selling studio recording).
The composition is mostly about the journey of the mind, but you'd never know it from the playful bass line and semi-funk rhythm that fuels it...
"Girlfriend Is Better"
After the groundbreaking album. 1980-х years Remain in Light, Talking Heads honed and refined their sound on their fifth album, expanding the band to include string, French horn and percussion players. The result is the band's tightest, most groove-orientated (and song-orientated) album yet. И "Girlfriend Is Better" - the highlight of the experiment!
"Life In Wartime."
Best known for its catchphrase in the chorus - "It's not a party, it's not a disco, it's not a joke..." - "Life In Wartime." quickly became one of the band's most popular songs. Album Fear of Music, on which the track appeared, explored global rhythms while firmly retaining the basic New Wave structures...
