Tony Esposito - Kalimba De Luna: the story of a standout hit hailing from the 80s....
Содержание
Italian singer Tony Esposito became one of the main sensations of the 80s! And in many ways - thanks to the incendiary composition "Kalimba De Luna"... To this day, the song remains the artist's calling card, and how many covers have been recorded for it... Actually, about everything in order!
History of Creation
The highlight of Tony Esposito's creativity is his ability to harmoniously combine sounds and rhythms of different nations in his music... Tony released his first album in 1975, but it was "Kalimba De Luna" (1984) that became the main breakthrough of the musician... The song topped the top charts of several countries of the world. In the USSR it became a big hit even without hit parades!
What is curious is that the Kalimba is a musical instrument native to Africa. In his interview, Tony said:
"The Kalimba is a traditional African musical instrument that I am in love with... As you may have noticed, I use it a lot in my art! I love African culture and everything about it... I guess I inherited this passion from my grandmother, who spent her whole life in Morocco...".
So - in "Kalimba De Luna", with vocals by Italian singer Gianluigi Di Franco, just the right amount of praise for the beauty of this instrument....
It's not fair not to mention the excellent vocal data of Italian singer Gianluigi Di Franco! Light African rhythms combined with his sweet and pleasant voice bring to mind hot beach evenings and, of course, the sea....
Release
The song about "Kalimba" was released on a single in 1984, in support of the album "Il grande esploratore". The hit was hugely popular among both European and Soviet listeners!

Popular covers: Dalida, Boney M...
Once "Kalimba De Luna" became a world-famous hit, it was immediately re-sung by other artists and groups.
One of the most popular covers was the Boney M. version. By the way: it was performed by the "sunny" band and gained unheard-of popularity in the Soviet Union....
Who remembers, the middle of the 80s was the sunset for the once successful disco band... The eccentric Bobby Farrell was replaced by Reggie Tsibo. And although the latter managed to dilute the band with new bright colours, at the same time the band finally lost its former sound. Neither Liz Mitchell nor Marcia Barrett participated in the recording of "Kalimba De Luna"... Only session singers.
The Frenchwoman Dalida has also done an equally successful cover. The track successfully completed her album of the same name.
