At one point it seemed like the band had returned to the fans. But it only seemed so... So who were Sounds of Moo really and how did Sounds of Moo come about?

Where the path of the domestic band "Sounds of Moo" began - history and facts

"Sounds of Moo." - is a musical group that can be rightfully called a true phenomenon of the Russian rock scene. Everything in the history and creativity of this band is unusual: from the content of the songs to the original sound and the leader himself Petra Mamonov. The line-up changed frequently and even broke up twice. At some point it seemed that the band returned to the fans. But it only seemed so... So who were Sounds of Moo really and how did they emerge? "Echoes of Moo."?

History of emergence

Sounds of Moo, Russian rock band
"Sounds of Moo."

"Sounds of Moo." - the very band that was not to everyone's liking, but it is impossible to imagine Russian rock without it.

This phenomenon emerged in the mid-80s, on the whim of two brilliant musicians - Petra Mamonov и Alexander Lipnitsky. As a result, their brainchild was the most unusual thing to happen in music USSR.

Pyotr Mamonov was the driving force behind this rock show. He had been interested in music since childhood and at school he even started a band called Express with his friends. There he learnt drums, bass guitar and keyboards. However, a new page called "Sounds of Moo" appeared in his biography, when the musician was already over 30. There were two "old men" in the band - Pyotr Mamonov и Alexander Lipnitsky. That's what they called themselves:

"We were 30 years old! We had a lot of life experience behind us, a different perception of the world than young musicians... It was all strange, at least for people close to us and those around us. Two old men decided to form a rock band! Starting a rock star career at that age in the USSR seemed like a hopeless venture," Lipnitsky said in an interview.

Peter and Alexander were childhood friends. The third person in their company was Artemy TroitskyMamonov had a solid repertoire of songs. At that time, Mamonov had a solid song repertoire in store. But not everyone saw his phenomenon.

"The first proposal to form my own rock band I rejected. But in 1983, Peter approached me again with this idea. In general, he had quite original things in store, and not everyone understood them: when he sang about his "Lyuliaki Bab" and "Diathesis" in the circle of close and familiar musicians, everyone only laughed. But he had a great rhythm, and suddenly I realised that this was something I had to do seriously. People need these songs!" - Lipnitsky emphasised in his interview.

The line-up was finalised in 1986 year. It included: drummer Alexey Pavlov, guitarist Alexey Bortnichuk, keyboardist Pavel Khotin и Alexander Alexandrov.

The history of the enigmatic name

Over the years, fans have made a tonne of assumptions about where the band's name actually came from. According to journalist Sergei GurievThis word combination had previously appeared in Mamonov's songs and, most likely, defined the birth of experimental creativity: something between the sounds of music and mooing. But there is a more curious version Olga Gorokhovaa close friend of Mamonov's:

"I used to call Petya Ant and he used to call me Fly. Later we both shortened the nicknames to just Mu. When he and Alexei, Mamonov's brother, were thinking of a band name, Pyotr stood up abruptly and said: "Sounds of Moo!" That's how we decided.

The main stages of creativity

The debut performance took place 28 January 1984. in the school where Mamonov and Lipnitsky once studied. In 1986, the band appeared on television for the first time, namely, they took part in the filming of a documentary film "It's only a matter of pulling the bowstring..."where she performed a song "The Mummy.". During the same period, Mamonov gives flat concertswith which to hone his skills.

1987 was a busy year for Mamonov and his team: first official concert outside Moscow, shooting a 60-minute musical film "Tell Tchaikovsky the news.", international tours and festivals. Amidst the popularity "Sounds of Moo." They became more frequently invited to television and radio programmes, and their songs, such as "Leisure Boogie." и "Grey dove."they're a hit.

In the second half of the 80's increased interest in Mamonov's persona: the musician more and more often gives interviews, and fans call him "father native". Already in 1988, Pyotr Nikolayevich made his debut in cinema - in the film "Needle." с Victor Tsoi in the lead role.

Who was the inspiration "Sounds of Moo."The band members were all music lovers, but jazz and jazz music deserved special honour," Lipnitsky said. According to Lipnitsky, all the band members were music lovers, but jazz and music deserved special honour. Elvis Presley, Chubby Checker, Ray Charles. и "The Beatles". Alexander Davidovich was also influenced by the iconic virtuoso Jimi Hendrix.

"We were in our 30s and we didn't want to copy anyone. We were in our 30s, and we didn't want to copy anyone. We pursued completely different goals, we had completely different experiences and views on life... This was confirmed by our rehearsals: sometimes Pavlov and Khotin tried to "spice up" the songs with fashionable musical elements, and it's not surprising, because they were younger than us. But Peter immediately cut off all these experiments. That's why "Sounds of Moo" had such an original and pure sound, based solely on rhythm!" recalled Lipnitsky. - Lipnitsky recalled.

The Phenomenon of Pyotr Mamonov

When it comes to "The Sound of Moo."the first thing that comes to mind is the leader of the group, Pyotr Mamonov. This man was truly phenomenal and unique. Because of this, at times the other members of the collective looked like an add-on against his background. About that. Alexander Lipnitsky said so:

"Yes, Peter was indeed the driving force in the group. But the other members weren't background either. And life proved that. After Sounds of Moo, Pete never managed to create anything like what we did together... It was a special magic!"

The End of the Story and Echoes of Moo.

The group's first breakup occurred in 1989 the year that "Sounds of Moo." were at the height of their popularity throughout USSR. Suddenly Mamonov announced the disbandment of the musicians, which surprised and saddened everyone at the same time. Afterwards, he made an attempt to revive his brainchild, but without success, largely because the line-up was no longer the same. Pyotr Nikolayevich almost stopped the activities of the band. However, for a long time he still performed and even published music under the band's name, although almost completely alone.

"Echoes of Moo." - This was the name of the project, in which the former members of the original line-up occasionally performed. Unfortunately, Pyotr Mamonov never appeared in the group.

However, after leaving. Alexei Bortnichuk in 2012 and the deaths Alexander Lipnitsky in 2021, the continued existence of the project is in doubt.

"Echoes of Moo is a truly unique experience! There is hardly another example in world rock of a band without a leader being reborn in such an unusual way," Lipnitsky once said.
