Mickey Guyton sang the US anthem and met Prince Harry: Photos, videos, quotes
On 13 February, Super Bowl LVI was held in Los Angeles. Country music star Mickey Guyton opened the game by singing the National Anthem. Guyton was joined on the field by a ten-piece backing choir that elevated her stunning vocals.
"I am honoured to sing the National Anthem today with this incredible group of people", - Mickey shared a moment from the rehearsal on Twitter. Backstage, Guyton posted a picture with Prince Harry. Today, she shared some behind-the-scenes moments with fans.
Guyton's performance was one of the many musical highlights of the evening. R&B singer Jhené Aiko performed "America the Beautiful" during the pre-game performance, accompanied by a live harpist. Fans were also thrilled with the Super Bowl halftime show, a ten-minute spectacle featuring Dr. Dre, Mary J. Blige, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, and Eminem. An unexpected guest was 50 Cent, who performed his most iconic hits.
Ahead of her Super Bowl performance, Guyton released her highly acclaimed debut studio album, Remember Her Name, in September 2021. In addition to Guyton's Grammy nomination for Best Country Album, the record's title track is also being considered in two categories, including Best Country Song and Best Country Solo Performance. A year earlier, Guyton won her first Grammy Award for her song "Black Like Me."
This album helped me realise that I needed to get rid of the idea that I wasn't going to be accepted by everyone in country music or all the worlds. Instead, I focused on making music, - Guyton told CMT in an interview, - I hope that the freedom this album has allowed me to create will encourage other artists to do the same.
