Cult rock bands and their original names
Содержание
There's a reason they say: "What you name the ship, the ship will sail.". And so the choice group names - is a big deal, and unfortunately there is no secret formula to help participants with it. Over the decades, musicians have looked for inspiration in everything from the name of a street in their hometown and their favourite drink to horror movies and even anecdotes!
History knows many bands that repeatedly experimented with a name and were everything they could be before the members failed to find something that was perfect for them. Thus what were the names some of our favourite and most iconic rock bands in history at the beginning of their careers? We suggest finding out together!
"Baby without clothes" (Creed).
One of the many names under which the rock band first performed Creedthere was Naked Toddler. That phrase, meaning "Baby with no clothes on.", was taken from a newspaper headline that particularly caught the guitarist's attention Marc Tremonti. Creed performed under this name for a short time: it is known that the audience did not like it at all. So, for the sake of the fans, "Baby" had to be abandoned.
By the way, the band's ingrained name translates as. "Beliefs."and because of that, many people thought that Creed was Christian group! Largely also because of the songs, whose lyrics are full of Christian references.....
"Tom & Jerry" (Simon & Garfunkel)
For the folk duo Paul Simon и Art Garfunkel title Simon & Garfunkel seems like an obvious choice, but surprisingly, the name was not their first. In the late 1950s, the young couple took the name "Tom and Jerry."! But that's not all...
Apparently the members of the duo got so excited that they even took their respective aliases: Garfunkel became the Tom Graf.while his colleague Jerry Landis! However, they soon did change their name to Simon & Garfunkel (possibly due to copyright), and as a result wrote the name into the musical history of the 60's !
"Tony Flow and the Marvellously Majestic Masters of Mayhem" (Red Hot Chili Peppers).
If you thought Red Hot Chili Peppers - a long name for a band, then you were wrong! Fans of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers have the band to thank for calling themselves that after all. After all, their original name was even longer and weirder!
Before they were peppers, they used to refer to themselves as "Tony Flow and the Marvellously Majestic Masters of Mayhem."! Explaining this idea, in an interview with a journalist Anthony Kiedis said:
"This is how we wanted to play, majestic and chaotic!"
But apparently the name was too long for the fans, although, it should be noted, it perfectly described what the Red Hot Chili Peppers have always been! But why Tony Flowe? That's another question...
"Polka Tulk Blues Band" (Black Sabbath).
The kings of "dark" and heavy classic rock, Black Sabbath experimented with the name for a long time. In particular, for some time they performed under the pseudonym of Earthbut few people know that before that there was another, much longer and stranger name ....
Osborne's team originally called themselves Polka Tulk Blues Band! It is not known exactly what it was inspired by, but there are versions that the name came either from a brand of talcum powder or from an Indian-Pakistani clothing shop... In any case, the name proved to be too long and unsightly, and so the band was soon renamed Earth and then, finally, Black Sabbath - an inspiration that came to Ozzy from the of the horror film of the same name 1963, which at the time was running at the box office across the street from their rehearsal space.
"Friday" (Radiohead)
When Radiohead had just formed, the band members were still in school and could rehearse. only on Fridayshence their original name: On a Friday. "Friday.").
They used this alias during their first few gigs, but when EMI offered a contract, the decision was made to rename themselves Radiohead, which this time stood for "Radiohead."! Apparently the lads were serious about conquering the radio waves ....
"Long John and the Silver Beetles." (The Beatles)
"The Beatles." it didn't happen all at once either. It all started with The Quarrymena project that later evolved into the Beatles. But that's not the whole story...
The thing is that during the heyday of the Liverpool Four's career, band names mentioning insects were at the height of fashion. And that's when it came into your head John Lennon had the brilliant idea to name the band "Long John and the silver bugs.". But in the end everyone thought that this name is too long, but the idea with beetles is cool (by the standards of fashion of those years). A little bit of experimentation with the letter "A" and there appeared The Beatles!
