Belarusian band Intelligency presented the song "Leta" - detailed review
Содержание
Intelligency is a Belarusian music band based on techno style (or "techno-blues" as the band members themselves say...) Towards the end of April 2021, the band pleased their fans by releasing a new single called "Leta": the lyric video appeared on Intelligency's official YouTube channel on 30 April, and within 3 days gained more than 10 thousand views! "Leta" is a light techno track with touches of blues, featuring acoustic guitar, an instantly catchy motif and a seemingly so simple, yet quite skilful arrangement... Will this song become a summer hit? Time will tell. In the meantime - we offer you a detailed review of the new single by the Belarusian band! Let's go...
A little bit about the band: who is Intelligency?
Intelligency is a Belarusian musical techno band formed in May 2013. The team from Minsk released their first full-length studio album at the end of 2015: the work was called "Doloven". The second record - "Techno Blues" - saw the light of day in the summer of 2017. Fans of television music shows and projects probably know this collective from the second season of "Songs" on TNT! Then Intelligency reached the stage of the selections ...
In 2019, the band presented their third studio album "Renovatio": all the listeners' attention was on the track "August", which soon became a popular hit on TikTok and Shazam! And now, at the end of April 2021, Intelligency presented a new single, in which many already saw a potential hit... The song "Leta".
The background, the record, the inspiration
Intelligency vocalist Vsevolod Dovbnya commented on the band's new single, stating that "this is the true Intelligency style: it existed before August, and it remains afterwards...". The measured and incredibly light motive, played on guitar, was invented by Mikhail Stanevich. Actually, let's listen to Vsevolodv himself:
"At the moment Misha is just learning to play the acoustic. That's probably why he can play interesting parts with ease! His slightly off beat way of playing gives the band simple but very effective melodies... His ideas always sound more fresh and interesting than mine. And it's really great! I haven't written anything on guitar myself for a few years now, since the release of "August". But we did the whole arrangement together...".
According to Dovbnya, the song "Leta" is really special! It turns out that originally it included 5 independent parts! However... the band thought and decided that it would be better to leave only two of them: as Vsevolod explained, they did it in order not to over-saturate the composition.
"What's going to happen with the rest of the pieces? We don't know yet. But most likely we'll use them for a new track..."
When listening to "Leta" (and even when looking at the title alone), many listeners are sure to catch flashbacks - or simply put, experience summer vibe... Actually, that's what Intelligency members were betting on! According to Dovbny, the band couldn't come up with a suitable title for the song for a long time. And yes: the mistake in the word "summer" (meaning the ending) was made for a reason...
"This song was originally titled 'Summer Vibe', however, it later became clear that there were already a huge number of songs under that title..."
The members of Intelligency quickly realised that there was no point in calling the song "Summer Vibe": if only because the track would constantly be confused and lost... Vsevolod Dovbnya continues:
"We like the Russian word "leto" very much, but we liked the variant "leta" much better! And the Belarusian language does not play a role here. You could say - it's an amazing coincidence. We just chose the word "Leta" as the title, as we decided that it is more harmonious with the sound range of the composition itself...".
Some listeners have already managed to compare the track "Leta" with the sensational hit of 2019 "August". Well: there is indeed something similar in these compositions, but at the same time they are completely different... Here's what Vsevolod Dovbnya says about it:
"There is not and never has been a single instrument that can make viral hits... Yes, our songs have similar styles, different techniques... But each track sounds different, unique... In our tracks you can hear obscure whistles, dudes and even just distressed guitars... We were always looking for fresh ideas and long-playing parts. But at the same time we never tried to make each of our new singles sound like the previous one. Our sound sticks in the memory and the listener gets a vibe... Maybe that's the secret...?".
