Содержание
Everyone who has ever watched the action film "Top Gun" starring Tom Cruise will recognise this tender melody! It's songs like "Take My Breath Away" that makes you want to lie in bed till dinner time and love the whole world....
History of Creation
The touching song was made famous by the American band Berlin, but the authors of the hit are generally considered to be Giorgio Moroder and Tom Whitlock.
Their acquaintance fell at the dawn of the 1980s, when the legendary disco king hired Whitlock to fix his Ferrari. In the course of the conversation it became clear that Tom loved music. Then Moroder arranged a new comrade in his own recording studio, and noting his awakened gift for rhyming, entrusted him to write poetry for the film "The Best Shooter". One of Tom's songs was "Take My Breath Away"!
Probably, how popular "Top Gun" was at the box office, it is not worth reminding... The film's box office collection was $350 million worldwide! Such a result today is a great rarity, but in those years ... Competitors to the film could easily be counted on the fingers. The dialogues of the characters were quoted, and the soundtrack itself became an unquestionable leader of all prestigious charts!
It was in 1986 that Berlin found their coveted fame by performing this composition. However, their lucky ticket was also their last major achievement... A year later, the band broke up, and "Take My Breath Away" contributed a lot to that....
In 1987 Berlin released a new album, but it was not very popular. Many music lovers knew the band only because of the cult soundtrack. In the end, there was a serious conflict between the members... While lead singer Terry Nunn was over the moon that Berlin had a great thing called "Take My Breath Away" in their collection, the rest of the musicians were truly angry... None of them liked this hit, because it was written by completely outsiders. It didn't belong to any of them... And although Terry still got the right to use the name Berlin a dozen years after the break-up, she never achieved the same success with the new band....
In the meantime, the track entered the Top 10 in many countries, confidently taking the top position on the Billboard Hot 100! In 1986 the single was released on Columbia and Geffen labels. In the same year it brought its authors two prestigious awards at once - "Oscar" and "Golden Globe".
Lyrics, melody, magical sound - in this composition, it would seem that all the details came together in a single harmonious picture... To this day, the tender "Take My Breath Away" pleases and inspires fans of sensual music!
